Induction Cooker
-
I have been using induction hob for quite a few years now. Very happy with it becos cleaning is a a breeze. I cook simple meals, and don't have any complaints about the \"fire\" issue.
Prior to the installation, I have friends warning me that it is very difficult to control the desired heat because the power is very strong, and that I will burnt my garlic easily. I don't have this problem leh (wonder if its becos of the brand/model). I can even make a whole tub of fried onion without burning any
Initially, I did have some problem making a nice sunny side up - not too runny nor overcooked. Takes some getting used to and all is well.
One down side I can think of - a pot of liquid boils so fast, that on numerous occasions, my soup/herbal tea overflows when I turn around to attend to my toddler, or when I get distracted. Incidences of such has reduced as I get used to the hob. I think the digital control on my hob helps.
Don't think I will ever go back to gas stoves anymore

I am using Bosch 30cm Domino series. It has combination of gas and induction hobs. It looks like this http://www.bosch-home.com/sg/products/cooking-appliances/cooktops/30cm-domino-series/list.html. However I can't find the 30cm gas hob online anymore. Not sure if they are out of stock.
sandunes, may i know what is the brand of your hob? cos i am looking high and low for combination but i cant seems to find it anywhere.sandunes:
My hob is a combination of gas and induction. I use induction when I want to bring to boil something fast. Other wise, I use gas as I think gas is cheaper.
Those who are used to cooking with big flames may not like induction. There is also induction hob designed for wok.
Brandt has similar hobs. http://www.rinaelectrical.com.sg/brand_tpl.asp?bId=3&cId=4&PgSize=5&PgNo=2 but I think it's tempered glass instead of ceramic.
Tecno has it too. http://www.tecnogas.com.sg/product_list.asp?catname=Hobs&cat=%7B767A720D-B8A3-4F79-82D4-A4B18B53D4C4%7D&brand=2&type=2 -
Sandunes, do you still remember how much you bought it. Which is better tempered glass or ceramic. Is it better to have both combination of gas and induction. Tks

I love induction cookers but I don’t use big brands or fix/installed type. Last year when my steamboat pot knocked out, I bought a induction cooker with steamboat pot from NTUC for $80 and it is still serving me well. I find stand alone induction cooker better as they can be taken anywhere and if they expire, I just replace them without fuss ie. having to look for another brand (which is a good brand) which fits the cut hole on the table top etc etc…
The one that I currently use is Taiyo and the power must be high for induction at least 2000w to achieve fast cooking. The temp and heat can by turn down and it comes with timer too. I use it mainly to cook food with liquids and IMO I don’t find soup taste as good because it can’t do slow cooking.
I still think gas stove is a must as there is a possibility of electrical power failure. -

Sorry I can't but ceramic is more ex than glass.
On hindsight, I should have just bought tempered glass as they are easier to clean (for the gas hob). I like the combination as I can choose between using gas and electricity.
(but it looks nicer if the whole stove is induction

I love my induction hob. Temperature control is immediate and sensitive. There is very little heat lost to the air so my kitchen stays cool. Water heats up real fast so when I make soups and stews with thermal pot, I don’t have to wait forever to get the water to boil. The glass top is so easy to clean too. There is no naked flame so it is safer, and mine has a warning light to indicate when the hob is hot (after being used).
I have a cheap portable gas hob outside the house for wok frying but I do most of my cooking on the induction. -
My contractor told me that the induction hob need a special votage as it watt very high. Anyone can advise.

That is what my electrician said. Then, when he saw my double induction, he realized that he had over catered the voltage requirements. If you have a 4 burner induction, and you switch on ALL at the same time... the voltage required is high. If you have a single burner, a normal plug will do. I was using a portable induction at the old house with a normal plug.
Then I installed a double burner. Since I have a double burner gas hob outside, plus 2 ovens and a microwave. I never use more than 2 induction burners anyway. Usually 1. -

Yes u will need a 13Amp plug for built-in induction as the initial surge can be high if u switch on both or \"high/boost\" at first.
I usu. switch to max to bring to boil very quickly and lower the temp after that. -
Hi Musicstar
A combination of induction and gas is good if you are used to seeing the big flames when you cook. Also the chinese wok (black type) cannot be used on induction, as well as some pots (eg:enamel ). If I did not remember wrongly, the vitroceramic ones rather than tempered glass can take higher heat. Havey Norman at Millenea Walk is a good place to see a wide range of such stoves. u see the model u like, then get from one of those smaller retailers which is cheaper…
