What type of bicycle is your child riding?

Yes, raising the seat tube, and saddle position will accomodate growth, to a certain limit. Adjusting the reach of the handle bar will also help. Generally aluminium kids bikes are much lighter, and easier for them to handle. My son rides a Trek MT20 - no complain
He is 7yrs old ..soon we will need a bigger bike so im thinking of raising the seat first. any recommendations for a good and lightweight bike?

hi,
just to share, i bought a 14\" for my 3yr old as the 12\" looks just nice and indeed, though the 14\" is a wee bit bigger than her, now 3 mths on, the 14\" is just nice for her..
i bought it at $80 from a bicycle shop in Hougang.. auntie mentality tot bicycle shops' bicycles are beta quality than departmental stores one.. have asked around amk and hougang areas.. some charges me $10 for a bell or $8 for a basket.. this shop throws all in for us..

giant once in a while will have promotion on foldable bikes. the last time was just 2 weeks back, just below $100 each. looks quite decent, but don't expect too much since the price is low. -
Thanks tankee I will check it out

I went there last evening. They are selling 2 model, smaller one at about $60 and the bigger one at about $70+.
training wheels can be purchased separately. -

What is the weight for this 2 bicycles? Will it be too heavy for a petite 5 yo? -
In general, the cheaper bicycles tend to be heavy as they are made of iron/steel. The lighter ones ie made of aluminium alloy are more expensive. Makes a difference when you are loading and unloading the bike from the boot. Foldable bike makes it easier to transport. Also you may want to consider bikes where the seat and handle can be adjusted when the child gets older. Otherwise it cannot be used after a year or two.
Weight of the bike is not really a problem when the child is using it for casual cycling.
