All About Ballet

Hi michollh,
Agree that it wouldn’t be healthy to start drilling into the kids’ heads at such a young age that they must be slim! So far, thankfully, I haven’t met any ballet teachers who have said that to their preschool students. If I do come across such a teacher, I’d be very concerned.
From what I’ve heard so far, usually teachers/schools will have additional coaching sessions to prepare for exams in the months leading up to exams. Some schools even stipulate that from Grade 3 onwards, students need to attend lessons twice a week. Depends on your ballet school/teacher’s practice i guess. -

mummy, i got a question to ask.. i always see those children whol learn ballet (in primary level) are slender and looks very graceful.. will the ballet teacher tell their student to always keep lean? as for pre-primary classes, there are still chubby chubby kids..
Yes, there are teachers who will ask the girls to keep slim, lose weight etc. Especially in the weeks leading up to the exams. Girls with tummies are 'gently' reminded to lose them. -

Yes, good to try maintain slim figure.
bec if too fat, dancing becomes clumsy - like elephant trumping around.
stand on tiptoe also feel heavy.
dancing also not so nice. Less graceful if compared to somebody else who is tall, slim and graceful.
besides ballarinas, gymnasts is another group that are slim.
so far haven’t seen fat gymnast appearing in Olympics on tv … -

DD was in baby gems when she started in march... and in jul, was already promoted to pre ballet (CSTD) or pre primary (RAD) syllabus..
so when she comes to primary level, will be deciding to do CSTD or RAD syllabus... which is better?
