1st of all, we shd avoid comparing the academic achievements or performance of the IP schools HERE. It OK to query on the curriculum, school policies, facilities etc...

The main diff betweem NUSH and SST is that one ends up with a NUS Dip while the other will finish off with 'O' level. What is beyond that depends on the student himself. NUS is just one of the choices for NUSH, but from what I heard, most students r looking beyond our shores.

As for SST, think their pioneer batch is just Sec2 this yr. Although it may be under NP, I'm sure the students are not restricted to the poly/dip route. However, that being said, I'm sure most will agree that it will be interesting to see how the JCs view the relevance or weightage of their (applied) subjects vs the typical 'O' subjects this a couple of yrs' time.
      Well said :rahrah:

Applied engineering is still built onto on core science foundation. I am not totally convinced that the kid is ready so early into applied science without strong fundamentals of core science.

SST is more geared towards poly bound students whose strength lies in technological application rather than academics.

Some information about admit stats for Class of 2010 (size 173), for those interested. Not the most impressive - however do note that some haven't applied yet and this information may not be complete.

Any idea what percentage of applicants were offered for NUS Medicine, Dentisty and Law? Eg. Medicine 10 offers out of how many applicants from NUS High?

if can, appreciate if let us know what’re criteria for NUSH students to enter Medicine, Dentisty & Law ?

because for 3 different group / route - different criteria are set.

              a) NUSH compete within the same group,

              b) IP schools plus so many Junior colleges all over SG compete amongst themselves,

              c) polytechnic students also compete for limited scare vacancies, in these 3 faculties.

                    hi UncleLim & vks2010,

fyi - for admission into Medicine & Dentistry 2011:-

                    a) need both the University Score and the Faculty Score.

                    i) University Score – is computed by the Office of Admissions:

for A level students pouring out from IP schools & Junior Colleges:-
the best 4 content subjects (ie. 3 H2 and 1 H1 content subjects,
with at least 1 content subject to be from a contrasting discipline), either GP or KI grade taken in the same sitting, as well as H1 Project Work.

ii) Faculty Score - is computed by the School of Medicine.

iii) Two interviews, one written essay and portfolio review.

                    b) 2 Letters of recommendation, from someone senior heavy weight in authority.

                    c) what subject combination must I have?

                    i) for A Level students Prerequisites:

the subject combination prerequisites are as follows:
H2 pass in Chemistry and H2 pass in either Biology or Physics.

of the best four content subjects (i.e. 3 H2 and 1 H1 content subjects) used in the computation of the University Admission Score, at least one content subject (either H2 or H1) must be from a contrasting discipline.

                    ii) International Baccalaureate Prerequisites:
Pass in HL Chemistry and either HL Biology or Physics

                    iii) NUS High Prerequisites:

Major CAP of at least 2.0 in Chemistry and either Biology or Physics, and
CAP of at least 1.0 in one other major and in English Programme and Research Project.

                    Chemistry is compulsory.

i heard that they prefer to give scholarships to boys than girls - like 75% to boys, only 25% to girls.

maybe because next time, boys grow up to become bread winners for family.
