Dilemma ... What would you do if in my shoes ,should I do PV in Rulang?

Ex-student of rgps but distance far
Stay within 1 km of Rulang
Hi to those who have privilege of 2A,
I think many of us faced situation like you. Given too many choice may trouble us too. 🙂 That trouble me as well. In our situation, we should not consider based on the school distant as priority. You need to make a decision based on the higher chances of going to a popular school that you want. For others who has no privilege of going to a popular school in 2A, they are belong to 2B or 2C which will look into popular school that close to them with some extra effort. For those who can afford, they will move themselves to the mountain. That does not 100% guaranteed a place!

First you ask yourself how far is far that you can accept? To some, 20km still quite ok which they own a car and fetch the kid along the way to work. Some may feel 10km is too far. You may want to choose to move to school if really there is a choice. If all these still not workable, then you have no choice and will fall into the group who are belong to 2B and 2C. Then should not consider this category anymore. Put down and move on. 😂

Once you can accept the distant, then forget about the popular school in 1km. Because you will never want to risk it by going thru balloting. So what if 22 within 1km is fighting for 20 seats, will you take the risk? Put the one that in front of your door step and move on. Grab your chance in P2A first so you have the stake to negotiate in future. Who know there may have vacancy in future?

In short, you are given a 2A which others does not have and they are willing to pay so much $$ to even buy a house nearby. You want to give up the chance and benefit others? Clear now?

          hi LeeTaiTai,

use P2A - get into RGPS first. It’s risky to ballot for Rulang under P2B.
then use your daughter’s P1 RGPS year end results - try to seek transfer into Rulang.

if no vacancy in Rulang, wait till end of P3 (more fluid movement).

by end of P3 - if your daughter gets into GEP, then stay put at RGPS or transfer her out to another GEP school (example: NYPS).

if not, can still transfer her to Rulang, or to another affliated primary school.

            hi

I would like to seek some advice. My girl is currently 3 years old. We stay within 1 km of boon lay garden primary school. I am thinking ot move near to Rulang (<1 km) so as to secure a higher chance in phase 2b (need PV), but I heard that there is low chance of getting into the school even as PV and < 1km. What are the options we can consider or other primary schools? Thanks.

You are lucky as there are more primary schools today in Jurong West (one more coming up), fewer new flats so fewer young families with school-going kids. Do consider what is your criteria to \"narrow down\" your search.
              - good/popular school ?
              - distance from home ?
              - strong parents network ?
              - good teachers ?

Then again, how would you define popular ?

8 years ago when DD registering for pri1, there were only 2 schools within 1 km for residents staying in blk 6XXs in Jurong West and it was like nearly 2.5 to 3 kids balloting for 1 place in phase 2C. Choice for me was based on distance (both are within 1 km) and luckily she managed to get in during the balloting. DS automatically qualify for phase2A 2 yrs later. Imagine 300 over kids staying within 1 km trying to get 100 plus seats. To me, the situation of 3 kids balloting for 1 place is not becasue the school is popular but becasue MOE did not have the fore-sight to see the need for more schools when HDB over-supply new flats in Jurong West resulting in a lot of young families with school-going kids.

                thanks for your advice 🙂

Well, thought to get my girl into a good school (with consistent results) to give her a good head start..I think what's important is that the teachers are good and patient with the children, think my girl is those attention type.
She is speaking mainly English and does not really understand Chinese.
How is boon lay garden primary school and corporation primary school?
                thanks.

                    Hi rebirth,

Between the two, there is definitely much more shared here about CPS.

Go to parents’ networking groups and check the posts there.

CPS at 67 pages so u can find a lot of info there or ask the parents with kids in CPS for their views.

As for BLGPS, still at page 1 so parents with kids in tt school NOT active here; will be difficult to get feedback. Moreover, the posts on BLGPS does not reflect well on the school.
