Hi I’m new to this forum. My son is in year 2 at acs independent but didn’t get into ib because of hast test. His grade avg is high. Thinking of transferring to a better o level school. Any advice? Not sure whether to stick on and try in year 4.

Thanks. Yes, it makes sense to stick on if committed to IB but just taking a step back to rethink. my concern is really the o level performance of the school. I guess it is not surprising given the split between IB and O levels so that their better students are in IB.

Had asked the following in the RI & HCI thread, and will do the same for ACSI thread. Hope helpful KSPs will help …

            1) Does ACSI have school bus transportation from the East to campus? My DS had CO from RI, HCI n ACSI n we r trying to decide which is most convenient for him. Don’t see the need to spend so much time traveling.

            2) How do students taking 3rd language make their way to moelc? Does the school provide transport? How far is it from school?

            3) What is the typical school hours in ACSI? Do they come home only during dinner time everyday? If so, how to cope w homework, if any?

Any info will be appreciated. Thank you!

              Hi

My son takes school bus from east. Pick up around 615 am but he isnone ofnthe later ones. There is no transport back so you have to make your own arrangements.
As for typical school hours depends on your CCA. Comes back late after 6 pm twice a week but he does not have a heavy CCA schedule. ACSI requires you to take 2 CCA. He is ok with homework load.
              Hope this helps.

Is your DS in the IP or O level track? Is he taking third language? Coming back late 2 times a week sound real reasonable.

                By the way, i sent u a PM ...

He’s on the O level track so far, but hoping to switch to IB. He isn’t taking a third language. I think it really boils down to the CCAs. For example, if you are doing shooting or canoeing, and are training for medal etc… then you could be doing CCA training five times a week!

As for kids in IB program, I don’t think they have a significantly higher workload but that could also depend on the individual.
Also ACSI is an IB school, so if you intend to send your DS there, then you join the IB programme.

                    Hi Mindboggled,
May I know what is the criteria to switch from the O level track to the IB programme?

Can anyone list the "killer" CCAs (in terms of time consumed) ?

Currently, there are a few criteria - HAST test (if PSLE score was below 250, unless your average after Year 1 is 80% or above, not necessary), personal statement (different questions which you can choose from), CCA and academic performance. As a rule of thumb, if your average is 70% or more, you should be able to get in. However, the HAST test, if your DS has to sit for it, is a must to clear.
