Hi Jenny,
5 1/2 is not too young. It is actually an ideal age. Some kids can start at 3 1/2 or even younger.
For school, your child will tend to behave more due to an unfamiliar surroundings. For group lesson, it may be good from young to train their ear. As for lessons at home, it is defintely the time saved travelling to n fro the school. But the child is able to get wholeJennyP:

Airex, wondering if you could fill me in on what/how a 3 or 3 1/2yo learns violin? My daughter, at that age, could barely stand still. She didn’t have the fine motor coordination skills either.

Hello. My school offers violin lessons for both children as young as 3 years old to adults. We also provide the service of getting the violin for the child. As a student in our school, he or she will be entitled to 10% discount for violin and the shoulder rest. At current we have a 30min trial promotion for new students going for S$15 (excl GST). Do check out our webpage: http://www.thistlesound.com
Hi
I just went to the website and search under VIOLIN COURSES, however its say the age group is for 4 yr old and above and not 3 yr old... -
Hello Sunset_dae. It is for 3 years old. I wanted to update the mistake in date but unfortunately my laptop crash. Till now, I have been trying to recover the data. Thank you for voicing your concern. 3 is a starting age for violin. Children of that age will use the 1/16 size violin. We have many students falling under that age range as we have two preschools beside us.
Hope to hear from you soon! -
Hello watmekiasu. My school has students learning violin as young as 3 years old. For 3 years old, they will use a smaller violin like 1/16 size. It always depend on the child’s interest and attention span. It also depends on how the teacher sustains their interest as well as their parents encouragement and being part of their learning progress.

Hi luckystar, do you happen to know how I am able to contact Ms. Yah Wan Har?
Thistlesound, airex - I have a 6 year old daughter who is currently in Yamaha’s Music For Children program. She is bored as it is sluggish and is only asked to play short notes 2x each class. She says she likes music and would like to pursue the violin.
We live around Bishan’s J8 and am wondering if anyone has good recommendations of a private home tutor.
Thank you and best regards. -
Susuki method violin 1st song is twinkle twinkle little star, 3 years old kids will like it very much, there is no problem at all.
