the top x% of the graduates are awarded the Raffles Diploma, based on his school result and other overall factors, just like the HCI Diploma and NUSH Diploma

No. The raffles diploma is more sophisticated than just top x%. there are 5 domains and must satisfy some min requirement in each of the 5 domains to have the basic diploma. Then merit and distinction I think requires merit or distinction in the specific domain.

You're not the only one :scratchhead:, I've read the booklet explaining everything about it but still :scratchhead: . My dd said she's clear about it, so okay, I don't have to worry. I think ultimately it's still the A levels results that are most important, the diploma is like a bonus?

The Raffles Diploma serves to differentiate the students and to capture their abilities, contributions and achievements in the five domains not reflected in the normal 'A' level certificate and testimonial.

Applications to UK and US universities are usually completed by Dec, some earlier depending on courses and universities and that is before the release of 'A' level results. They will usually know the outcome before 'A' level results are released. So, to put in simply, they need to apply with their prelim results and I think the Raffles Diploma will help.
The above only applies to girls because they enter universities the next yr whereas boys must go army and can apply the following yr or so.

Oh so boys don't apply so fast? They apply when finishing NS?[/quote]I guess it is up to them whether they want to apply in year 6 using their prelim results or wait till their 'A' level results are out when they are in the army and then use the 'A' level results to apply the following year.
