My daughter's ballet teacher did, many times. She explained it's very easy. However, do note it's left hand drive. And if you are driving to Hualien, still advisable to hire a driver to Taroko Gorge.

I'm starting to plan my family's trip in December and my first question is: how can we get from Taipei to Hualien? I've seen the railway website and There seems to be many trains each day. Is there like a best train? And is it best to book in advance from the website? Thanks.

Has anyone of you tried, driving in Taiwan?? Safe??? :xedfingers:

Thanks for your advice. But TS doesn’t have family rooms.

I’ve done some reading up on Future Star and here’s what I’ve gathered, for those interested.

The rooms @ level 7 are newly refurbished a few years back. And the consoling part is the family room is located here too.

They have several double rooms, from NT1180, 1280, 1380, 1480 and 1580. Only 1480 and 1580 are located @ level 7. The rest of the rooms are @ level 8 & 9. Not sure over the years, if the lower priced rooms are refurbished though.

Easy to go YangMingShan & Wulai ourselves? Or must join local tour?

I check Taoyuan airport website regarding the bus companies that go to Taipei City. But they go to a few MRT stations (ZhongXiao area) & few hotels doorstep but not rest of hotels like HKG. So we must continue take MRT from Taipei Rail Station / Main Station with the luggage?

Thanks sunnyling. I've tried City Inn Plus, they are fully booked for family and triple rooms. City Inn II and III's family rooms are fully booked too.

I've also tried TS hotel, unfortunately they do not have any triple or family rooms.

There are many day rentals in XMD but I don't feel safe staying there.
I am going to twn in Nov, 2A & 2C and have booked King Shi Hotel for our stay. They have Quad room and it near to Ximending MRT. GOOD luck :nailbite:

To go Wulai, take Mrt to Bitan station, then transfer by bus to Wulai.

I can't rem which one but there is an airport bus that requires you to change bus 1/2 way through the journey, depending on where your hotel is located. And yes, if your hotel is not near the drop off point, you will need to take the Mrt with your luggage. Aternatively, you can hire a taxi from the nearest Mrt station to your hotel. Also, if you are traveling in a group of 4, it is quite economical to get a driver to pick you up from the airport instead of taking the airport bus.

I see the website of City Inn, I don’t like their funny designs.

I booked YMCA superior (queen size) bed. NT2400/night, no BF.

Has anyone been to Taichung and visited the lavender Park, Kingbox? what other places worth visiting in Taichung? Is it difficult to go to Yamay Discovery World?

If one has to choose between Hualien and Taichung, what would be a better choice?

I think they are trying to look sophisticated. But at least the rooms look bright and clean.

We have an issue here as a friend will be joining us. Her cost is relatively high as she's taking a room by herself. Eg for a family room, our cost is around NT3000-3500 but for her double room, it is around NT2000-2500. So her expense is significantly higher. So when I look for hotels, I have to be mindful of her costs, thus we are quite restricted. Thanks for sharing anyway.
