chill ... I don't think Strparent meant it in a negative sense. His/her ds was from GEP too and in RI now (if I did not misread his posts). Can't be that he is belittling his son, right?

not to worry, chamonix.. it has evolved into a light-hearted discussion of the many 'funny' terms used by our old folks on us, and which we have not heard for ages.. seems like many of us belong to the same era.. brings back fond memories... 🕺

        Intermezzo:
\"hao tai\" does sound like a hokkien word which my grandfather used to scold me & my siblings when we were small, for being.. well.. stupid (not that we were, but in his eyes lah!).

haha me too long time never heard this word! sure brings back some childhood memories ~

another word my parents like to use on us is \"Jin Tuh!\" a bit hard to put into english phonics but i think it translates into 真蠢 😓
..or another one my parent use \"peh bark gui\" 😆

        :rotflmao: gosh, have heard of \"hao tai\", \"png tang\" (饭桶), \"jin tuh\" (真蠢), \"su ku\", \"tuh nao\" (猪脑) etc, but have not heard of \"peh bark gui\"! 😆 does it mean \"white eyes ghost\" (白眼鬼)? :

Wow! This is DSA or learning dialect site ah :rotflmao:
Anyway, I think strparent meant to say 'kids will honestly tell d truth' lah
        😄

a good sign that parents are no longer using such terms on kids :imcool:
