      Hi tianzhu

      Thanks for your fast response.

Haha...to think that I finally understood the question after looking at your answer!

Lucky my gal asked me to post on KSP if I can't figure out the answer šŸ™‚

          Need guide on these questions.

Ahmad spent $12.80 more than Ryan and 4 times as much money as Vincent. The 3 boys spent $118.60 altogether. How much money did Vincent spend?
          My answer
          12.80 x 1/4 =3.20
          118.6-3.2-12.8= 102.6
          102.6/ 9 =11.4
          11.4 + 3.2= $14.60. Is it correct?

          2. the number of apples at a store was 80% more than the number of oranges. After 60% of the oranges were sold, there were 42 more apples than oranges. Findthe total number of apples and oranges at first.

            Hi

            Q1 - yes.. you may want to add $12.80 to the total ie 12.80 +118.60 = 131.40 and this will be equal to 9u, 1u = $14.60 = Vincent's money.

            Q2. Apples : Oranges = 180 : 100 = 9u : 5u, total 14u
            after 60% oranges sold, oranges left = 0.4 x 5u = 2u
            so 9u-2u = 42, 7u=42, 1u =6

            Total number of fruits at first : 14u = 84, 54 apples & 30 oranges.

            cheers.

This question appeared in a revision paper: Answer is 2.4km but no solutions given. Could the gurus here help? :thankyou:

Andy, Benjamin and Charles travel from Town X to Town Y. They leave Town X at the same time. Andy drives at 56km/h, Benjamin walks at 8km/h and Charles walks at 7km/h. Andy gave Benjamin a lift at the start of journey to travel a part of the journey and then comes back to pick up Charles. They arrived at Town Y at the same time. If Benjamin walks 2.8km, how far does Charles walk?

                    Hi Chenonceau,

                    Let me try ..

                    Based on the figure,
                    YC = YA, i.e. Angle YCA = (180 - 118)/2 = 31 (base angles of isos triangle)
                    Angle ACB = Angle YCA + Angle YCB = 31 + 47 = 78
Since ABCF is a rhombus, then AB = BC, Angle CAB = Angle ACB
                    Angle ABC = 180 - 78x2 = 24 (sum angles in a triangle)
                    Angle EDC = 180 -24 = 156 ( interior angles, AB // FC // ED)

Hope there's no calculation error. šŸ™‚

                    Regards.
