may i ask wats 3G abacus really like

My 7yr old is attending abacus class, but not the 3G. I believe it is the traditional method, the abacus has 2 rows on the top and 4 down the bottom. In a way I think P1 is a good starting age. The student’s progress also depend on whether the child can understand the abacus methods. DS has a classmate who started way b4 him and he is in P4, but now they are at the same level.

My dd is in K1 this year. Started with CMA abacus in Feb. Now doing multiplication 2 digits * 1 digit, and addition / subtraction of up to 10 single / double digit numbers. She loves her lesson and looks forward to receiving more \"stamps\" from her teacher when she does her work well (that is to exchange for gift later when card completed
Find their materials very suitable for kids as has lots of pictures and quite \"well-rounded\" in covering abacus, mental arithmetics as well as having some game books for the younger kids. Can see difference as my 2 kids attended different abacus classes. Elder attended 2+ years of abacus class and still lost to the younger one when it come to recital practice. Somehow, foundation not as strong as program not as comprehensive. That's my personal opinion.

Yes, CMA has kids of different level in the same class, and each kid is taught individually based on their level. They are tested individually as well.
So far, both the abacus classes my kids have attended all have mixed level students in same class. If you see the class, you would understand that each kid progress at their own pace. For kids who are same age and enter at same time, they can progress at different paces and it can become very obvious over a period of time based on the kid’s aptitude and attitude towards abacus.
I know of a friend whose kids are in abacus classes progressing at same pace, and what happened in these classes is some kids will drop out over time as they are unable to catch up, whilst some kids will be bored in class. -

Just curious.....Is abacus still taught in schools? When my son was in the lower primary, we bought him an abacus and the abacus textbook according to his school booklist. However, he was never asked to bring the abacus to school that year and until now (now in P6), the abacus remains untouched.

my gal is in k1 this year, undecisive whether to send her for abacus/mental maths enrichment. i'm concern she might confuse herself when she enters P1 as i understand abacus is not inline with moe teaching? is there any maths enrichment course suitable for her age & is inline with what the school teaches?? pls help :?:
