Thermal pot
-
Hi
Can I ask if the thermal pot can be used to cook porridge, say in the morning, for lunch, and then left in there for night as well? Will the porridge turn too watery?
For those who have experience cooking the soup, does the \"essence\" of the soup comes through, if cook on the stove for a while and then transfered to the thermal, the soup is kept warm or does it really continue cooking on its own?
Sorry if my question sounds idiotic. It is my first exprience with this, and I find it amazing and wonderful, if easy to use, will definitely check it out
thanks in advance -
Wow, so many positive feedbacks on the Thermal pots.
How much is Tiger brand pot? -
I use a thermal pot too… and one more reason, other than those given above, is that the soup doesn’t dry up. Sometimes when we use the stove, the soup thicken but lesser… for thermal pots… it doesn’t thicken that way… it continues to cook in its own heat, but because it is covered… it will not dry up. I find that my soups are less oily and more clear when i cook this way.

I love thermal pot!
Ever since I used it think one year ago, besides all the good point metioned above, to me the greatest thing is that I don't need to watch over the fire, cos I can be absence minded on the slow boiling of soup and it is dangerous. I normally cook (meat + ingredients + water) under low fire for a while (15-30 mins) and move the pot into Thermal pot. It allows me to take a power nap without worrying about the fire after that.
One requirement is that the water level must be over the ingredients. The heat retained in the pot will cook the food itself and the soup remain hot.
Also as the soup remain very hot after I placed it in for 4 hours, it tastes yummy by the time my hubby is back from work in evening and he can have ready hot soup rather than heating up the soup again.
Mine is Tiger 6L. I think price increased since last yr, now cost $260 or $280 plus, can't remember the exact price. I bought mine at $224 (after Taka card discount) before the price increased, if I remember correctly.
Do Look out for promo. Taka sometimes have promo for members of further 10%. Can save a lot. The smaller one 4 or 4.5L cost ~ $220. It is a good investment for busy mom. (Note : I am not a Tiger promoter, simply recomm it as I understand how tiring sometimes to prepare a meal).
Another helpful household appliance for busy mom is clothes dryer. -

my parents, in-laws and I use non-Tiger type but I dun think they are any less effective. OG ones are probably among the cheapest @ $50~60 for members.Do OG & Robinson sell it?
What other food do you cook with this pot?
My mom usually makes those traditional cantonese soup such as lotus roots, some tuber (dunno name), chicken/veg soup, beef stew...things which were cooked over slow charcoal fire for hours in the old days.
I find it good for cooking desserts such as barley, green/red beans because it cuts down the cooking time so I don't have to stand and watch the pot in case it boils over.

Hi, Full Cream. Do you hv any feedback for the brand Thermos? OG is having a promo now, I hv not decided to buy or not.
The one that comes with 2 inner pots, do we hv to cook 2 dishes in each pot at the same time or can use only one pot? TIA your advice. -
It took me a long time before deciding on buying the Tiger Thermal Pot. Firstly, I didn’t want it to become another white elephant in my kitchen & secondly, I wanted to know which is cost effective in the long run & thirdly, which one performs the function best & lastly which one meets my needs the most (not in any order).
I went around to find out about the different brands of Thermal Pot like why some are less than a hundred dollars while others are close to three hundred dollars. I concluded that it is the different materials used on the stainless steel pot as well as the thermal pots. I also gathered feedbacks from the promotors at Tangs, Robinsons etc & from the people I know. I also went around feeling, touching & looking deep inside the pots.
If you are not in a hurry, you could do the same as what I did. If anything, it is to satisfy yourself, it is like "calculated risk factor". Another reason why I did what I did was because of accountability. I want to convince myself & let dh know that I am not buying on impulse.
It is well worth my every cent since the day I bought my thermal pot. It is indeed very efficient & very well used in my kitchen. I paid $288 a few years ago for my 8 litre Tiger Pot. You could wait till Tangs 12% discount period. -

It never fails to amaze me how you ladies can talk about a thermos flask or tupperware with the same love, passion and intensity that I have when I talk about the latest gadget and gizmo that plays all media under the sun and does the dishes as well.
