Thermal pot

Honey:
It took me a long time before deciding on buying the Tiger Thermal Pot. Firstly, I didn't want it to become another white elephant in my kitchen & secondly, I wanted to know which is cost effective in the long run & thirdly, which one performs the function best & lastly which one meets my needs the most (not in any order). ...
It never fails to amaze me how you ladies can talk about a thermos flask or tupperware with the same love, passion and intensity that I have when I talk about the latest gadget and gizmo that plays all media under the sun and does the dishes as well. -

I've no experience in the dual pot ones. But I believe if u r only using one of the pots, then just put boiling water into the the other so that u have more heat trapped inside the thermal container instead of hot air.
Hi, Full Cream. Do you hv any feedback for the brand Thermos? OG is having a promo now, I hv not decided to buy or not.
The one that comes with 2 inner pots, do we hv to cook 2 dishes in each pot at the same time or can use only one pot? TIA your advice.
another thing is that if u r buying a single pot type, choose one that fit the size of your family coz IIRC, the pot need to be at least 80% filled for it to be effective. Only only started using it more regularly when my kids became older and have bigger appeitite

I bought the non tiger type from OG. You can cook 2 dishes at the same time. Soup below and rice on the smalller pot.Full.Cream:
my parents, in-laws and I use non-Tiger type but I dun think they are any less effective. OG ones are probably among the cheapest @ $50~60 for members.

Hi I have not used a pressure cooker before, but I understand that it can cook and keep warm too, and it works something like we need to release the pressure before opening it?what is the diff between pressure cooker and thermal pot?
I bought a pressure cooker and the soup also remain warm until the next morning..
2 years back my colleague's wife was hurt (not sure how bad probably minor one) when she forgotten to release the pressure and opened it. Hence didn't consider to buy and Thermal pot came very handy after recomm from my sis.
May be you wld like to share on the usage of pressure cooker? it must be very handy too as it is market for very long time. -
I bought the WMF brand, robinson and metro occassionally have 50% sale for this brand of pressure cooker.
There is a ring on top of the hanger, it comes in 3 colour. U have to cook the soup over big fire until the 3 rings popped out (abt 5 mins), thereafter u can lowered the fire. It comes with a menu bk that tells you, what is the cooking time for each kind of soup/stew. Usually for potatoes soup, i cook for another 10 min after the 3 rings popped out. When i opened up the cover, the potatoes and carrots are all mashed up and the soup taste really fanstastic!
The pressure cooker is design in such a way that there is a switch at the side of the handle, if you want to open the cover u have to press the switch to release the pressure lst, if not the cover will not open up. Amazing huh? -

MUMMYOF3, thanks so much for the info.
I always thought the thermal pot is used to cook soupy dishes. Did not know it can be used to cook rice too.
Do you always use the two inner pots at the same time, or like what Full.Cream has suggested, have the other pot (without food) filled with boiling water? -
We bought the Tiger brand thermal pot from takashimaya and got a free gift for it.
We tried to check out the prices at both Seiyu and Taka and I think the prices are almost similar except that Taka comes with a free gift.
If wanna buy, wait for GSS sale or post-Christmas sales, usually can get huge discounts.
We use it mainly to cook herbal soups for the family, haven’t gone into experimenting it with other dishes yet. -
I think the one from OG (a 6 litre + two 3 litre) is not the right size for my family. Still looking for the right one.

Hi all,
I am considering of getting a thermal pot. I used to cook soup with slow cooker at night, I turned on the ‘slow heat’ switch . But in the morning the meat and carrot sometimes became very mushy. So, until lunch or dinner, the soup did not look nice anymore. Will this also happen if I use thermal pot? Except soup, what are other dishes that can be cooked in thermal pot? Thanks ya… -
Hi Allseasons
I have used the thermal pot for cooking stews, spaghetti sauces, curry, soups and porridge - all these dishes cook well in the thermal pot and it's so convenient too.
