Yes, school teacher are qualified teacher but some of them dun really teach well and we have to send kids for tuition. I still remember my son's teacher who was trained in maths but was tasked to teach english and science. And this teacher told my son that she doesn't really know Science!!!

This reminds me of my P5 daughter. She had a great maths teacher, until after the March holidays, when the teacher went on a long leave due to some family problems. The teacher was replaced by an award winning P6 EL teacher. Parents were unhappy with the way she teach, and started to complain to the form teacher, and even to the principal! In the end,75% of the class failed their SA2, with a handful getting only 20+ marks! The funny thing is, some parents whom I met during the parent teacher meeting even suggested writing a petition letter to remove this teacher coz she even gave the students the wrong answers. That is how bad she is at teaching math! This teacher is very good in teaching EL, she even won an award for that. I think she's not even trained to teach math! It is difficult for MOE to track down which teacher is trained in what subj and teaching what in schools. I feel that schools, in terms of manpower, just allocated the teachers where ever they're needed, not taking into consideration whether they're trained in that field or not. Something must be done about this, or the ones suffering would be our own kids 😞

This is the result of \"QUICK FIX\" and happens in many schools.

Hence why I always remind DD that some kids fail NOT because they are not clever and neither is she cleverer just because she (sometimes) achieves better grades. I tell her that it all boils down to whether they were taught well and had sufficient practise.

She needs to be grateful that she has tutors who teach and a mum who is able (to scrape) and pay for them!! :siam:

It is important that we communicate with our kids often.

My son told me last year that he attended the maths remedial class and he & another boy managed to solve the problem given by their teacher and they ended up having to explain to their maths teacher how to solve the problem.

Guess what? His maths teacher collated the qns for them and she herself doesn't know how to solve some of the qns.

            :stupid:

              Hi Mummies,

I just cannot understand what the school teachers are for, if they cannot teach the students...the tuition industry is booming as such and parents like us have to scrimp and save every cent...btw, it's not for scoring high grades but to pass exams.

                Janet,
                What to do???

But glad that more parents realise this.

Anyways, as I've mentioned before, this knowledge will certainly affect how I select a secondary school for DD.

This one I heard from my son before too. There was this Maths worksheet he brought back for homework. The two of us cracked our brains until almost 11pm at night before I gave up and told him to let teacher know he doesn't know how to solve those questions. The next day when he came back from school. ask him whether he found out how to solve. Guess what, his teacher says does not know how to solve either as she hasn't worked on them yet! :faint: If that's the case, why make the kids do it as homework!

Yes, the stupid situation is such...but why is MOE allowing this to happen ??? I believe many households are having huge expenses on grocery and tuition bills now.

actually this tuition thingy may not go away even when the kids enter sec sch. Which is why even the sec tuition service is booming.

If you visit crown plaza u will be shocked to see there are so many tuition centre for sec/jc students.

:offtopic: and there are some classes that are exclusively for some JCs only.
