Are your kids mindful of their belongings?

My dd has been misplacing stationeries, colour markers, pocket money, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc etc very frequently. So far I’ve been very lenient, gave her gentle verbal reminders and quietly replenished stock. But it’s already term 3 and her hack care attitude remains. Yesterday, she misplaced her water bottle again & even tore some pages from her textbook for fun despites me gaving her stern warning to wack her if she does not take responsiblity for her belongings on that very same morning.

I told her I’ve to keep my promise to wack her backside 3 times to help her to remember to be responsible. I’m not concern about the cost of replacement, it’s her bo-chap attitude that is infuriating. After wacking, we sit together to eat chocolate, hug and she said she has learned her lesson. She said she knows it’s for her own good. Shall see if spanking helps

From 1st day of school, I made it clear to my DD that she has to take good responsibility with her belongings. If anything misplaced I would ask her to use the old ones if any. Otherwise I would confiscate some of the unnecessary things that she bring to school. So far, she has no problem with her belonging except for one time where her classmate took her favourite storybook home without telling her. She was very worried. Luckily she managed to get back the book.

But I have another problem. My DD hide things from me. I told her not to take any cold drinks for the time being because of cough. She was so tempted and took it right after her Chinese dance CCA. She cough so badly until vomitted in school. She didn't tells me when she came home. Not even a word. I knew it only after the teacher told me. I'm worried and furious. I whacked her too. She knows she made a big mistake and she said she should have let me know. So sad.... 😞

Children do this all the time. Myself included (ie. 40 years ago). But the best solution may not be to confront them. Children hear what we say, but they only internalise it when they actually experienced the problem.

I'm pretty sure your DD would not have taken any more cold drinks even if you did not confront her, because of her experience, which I'm sure is quite embarrassing to her.

Fast forward forty years now, you are still having icy cold drinks all the time. 😆

But then again, so do I... :preen:

SAHM2KIDS, Chief is right in a way.. My DD1 hides from us too and she was asthmatic. Lagi siong. :faint: We WILL know cause her body responds to her taking cold drinks almost automatically. When that happens or if she feels something gonna happen, she will at her own initiative tell us she does not want cold drinks or sweet drinks at all... just plain water, plus she will keep refilling her water bottle with plain water at home.

              Thanks ChiefKiasu and buds. 🙂

I'm just too worried and never expect she would hide from us. We had a good chat and she understand my worries. I see her cough getting so much better these 2 days. 🙂 Think she learnt something also.

DS1 is in all boys school...worse...boys tends to be more careless...
his waterbottle has lost a couple of times till we r tired to replace one for him. In the end, let him use those recyle empty mineral bottles 😉 To our surprise, he din lost it since then, maybe bcos nobody would want to take it? :scared:

i agree that is the norm for p1 kids to lose their stuff.

DS1 also in an all boy school, i had already lost count how many pencils, erasers, rulers & water bottles he had lost!!

threatened him abt replacing his water bottle with plastic mineral bottle too if he lose his water bottle again & bingo, so far still ok 🙂 guess..kids will be kids! hope by P2, losing stuff will be lesser and lesser.

are your kids having SA2 in their schools.

My daughter just had her chinese orals. A scene in the kitchen. Said " mummy i did very good. But i did not know how to say kitchen cuboard in chinese and teacher said it is ok"

he he he…she is having her english oral tomorrow. ayah must take time to prepare her. she is bit slow with the picture discussion. reading passage is ok.
