Aren't there top schools in different parts of Singapore? NUSH and ACSI in the West, RI in Bishan, SNGS in AMK, Dunman High & River Valley in the East and lots more other schools in the second tier? It's true that there is a concentration of good schools in Bukit Timah like SCGS, MGS, NJC, NYGH, RGS and HCI, but the other schools I mentioned above are just as good..

River Valley High School is now at the far Western end of Singapore.

Anyway, I'm a Crescent alumnus. I can't speak for how the situation is now, but my teachers back then were very committed and my principal was far-sighted.

I think that most schools in Singapore have what it takes to help their students develop their potential. If a student doesn't do well, it's usually due to a combination of factors and cannot be blamed on the school.

You can take MRT to red hill station and walk or can take bus.
Bus 132 and 111 stop at the bus-stop outside the school.

In my working days, I had a top junior college in my CV and 3 previous employers that were publicly listed in the US or Europe. Somehow that gave my prospective employers the impression I was capable and desirable as an employee, and that probably gave me an edge over candidates who actually might be better-suited for that position.


From a brand recognition point of view, I would say choose SCGS. I do not like what I am saying but the truth is certain things in your CV helps you clear obstacles in your life. Like a Harvard degree, or if you have worked in Goldman Sachs. Many people have a certain impression of SCGS girls or RGS girls. I am not saying those perception is correct or mere stereotyping. But I feel many people do not know what to expect a Crescent girl to represent.

There are 3 accounts of negative experiences in scgs (sec sch) tt confirmed my long held impression of the largely privileged bunch there.


Account 1 was my cousin who got in with her gd psle results. Prob was she lived in a 3 room hdb flat. She was miserable as she experienced ostracism from the affiliated old girls who snubbed at hdb dwellers. She was much happier at her less class- based JC.

Account 2 was from a close friend whose parents were traditional tailors. She too got in at sec 1 based on her gd psle results. She told me she was snubbed at n the ridiculing made her miserable. Likewise, JC life was a much needed relief from the ostracism. M

Account 3 was a straits times interview mediacorp actress rui en gave a couple of years back. She recounted her days in scgs as feeling like she never fitted in. Many of the girls had mothers who were already in the same social circle, unlike hers. The exclusive social setting was a negative experience for her. She eventually went to rjc for her a level education.

From these accounts, I would advise those from humble backgrounds with high psle marks to consider instead other schools tt admit pupils strictly based on meritocracy like crescent, raffles, cedar etc.
