Wow, feel sorry for you, and totally agree with the scrapping of Phase 2A.NCPS PV result is out. I am one of the many rejected applicants. I think the chances for my DS to get into NCPS is extremely slim even I am staying last then 500m from the school. I think the MOE should seriously consider the abolish of the phase 2A/A1 system. I have see parents who stay so far from the school being enrolled just because they are related or alumi of the school.
Ridiculous for those who actually live near a school having to go to one far away! -

Hi, am like anyother mom, try to give sound academic and good environment school to our kids best possible. My DS due to register in next year too and I would like to discuss following. Hope someone can enlighten me.
Thanks for sharing, Cars2. Your sis is very bright indeed.Cars2:
Anyway, one of the parents who were unsuccessful was my own mother. She was terribly terribly disappointed. I was in RGS then, and my sister was not able to gain entry into NYPS. My mother had to scramble for an alternative at the last minute.
The story turned out alright though. My sister went to a neighbourhood school, got into the GEP programme at P3. My mom, still remembering the slight during the P1 registration process, chose RGPS over NYPS for my sis. And she emerged one of the top scorers for her year at RGPS with an aggregate score of above 280.
My mom always said that she pushed my sis extra hard to show Mdm Ho Chin Geok what she had missed.
Till today my mom is still sore about the whole incident.
We live just opposite Nan Hua Primary. Knowing this a good and super-hot school even we live within 50m might not have the chance to get in. But am actually still pining hope. I like the children there. Very well behave and the school emphasis on Chinese.
Also, I’ve been attending church for 1 year now, my boys also doing the Sunday school in church. I have 2nd thought to put them in Christian school – Fairfield Primary.
I know if I choose to Baptist, my chance for my DS1 to enter Fairfield (2B) is almost 100%? But am not ready for baptism being my parents & in-law are Buddhist. Being Christian heard can’t hold joss sticks and eat foods that offered for praying. If come to ‘Chin Min’ praying grandparents, what should I do? The other way is I heard church can also help write letter or endorse to help get in school. Is this possible? Can any long time Christian advise me?
Am in dilemma, should I just go ahead and Baptist for the sake of my kids’ future? This only thing I can do to pave the path for them in the beginning. Am leaving 50% to god to mold my kids on character building. -
My twins will be due for P1 registration next year under 2B. The school is in Tampines and is one of the top ten schools in Singapore. I live in the extreme west part of Singapore which is almost near to Tuas. I have seriously studied the statistics for 2011 registration and it showed that there was a risk if we do not live within 1 km to the said school under 2B. I am also considering my children to attend NYPS and I know that even though my house is a walking distance to the popular school I may not have the chance as this will be under phase 2C. As someone said there are about 33,000 or 38,000 Singapore babies born in 2006 and that exclude PR! It is very hard to decide. Sell my house? Buy a house? Rent a house??? Please help.

Believe you are referring to St. Hilda. Why go for such a far school? I believe there are nearer ones if you are registering under church affiliation or other priority. Frankly speaking, you will not get a chance to even ballot. So having said to be able to register under 2B is of no use, unless you shift.
There are many factors to consider be it renting, selling your house and buying another house. I can share what some friends of mine did. Rent a place near the school that they want to enrol, register and once get in, they sold their old place and bought one near the school. One even shifted 4 times before they managed to find a place to settle in. Another had to sacrifice being a SAHM as the houses near the school are simply too ex. At the end of the day, advise is to work within your budget and risk appetite.
Also, please always be prepared to have a back-up plan as there had been many unforeseen circumstances these 2 yrs. -
think safer to rent a place first. After confirm can get a place in St Hilda, then buy house & shift.
a) if choose St Hilda
between 2B St Hilda under church affliation vs 2C NYPS, i think if you're under (2B + shift <1km), chance is better. Do homework - check past 5 to 7 years balloting statistics on St Hilda, what's the chance like for (2B + <1km) ?
reason:
if you compete at 2B for St Hilda, you're at least one phase ahead of 2C.
if touch wood din get in at 2B, but because you shift house <1 km, you still have another chance at 2C.
check one more thing - at 2C Supp, what are some schools left in Tampines area ? refer past balloting history:-
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=452&start=500
b) if choose NYPS
do homework likewise for 2C NYPS - past 5 to 7 years, what's the chance for (2C + <1km) ?
but then NYPS private condo or landed property, are at rocket sky high prices now. At least St Hilda at Tampines still have HDB flats. Your family finances $ budget is the key determining factor.
if you shift towards NYPS, at 2C you must get in by hook or by crook.
because at 2C Supp - no more NYPS.
at 2C Supp - what is left only is Bukit Timah primary (BTPS).
are you thus mentally prepared that by shifting towards NYPS but if fail to ballot into NYPS at 2C - you accept BTPS, at 2C Supp ?
if it's (2C + >2km) NYPS - no chance to ballot.
recall ZT case, she comes under 2B PV (higher phase than 2C) but stay >2km - no chance to ballot at NYPS. -
There are also many things to consider for renting, e.g. what is going to happen to your current place, what is the tenure going to be for both your place and the place that you want to rent, etc. In short, you must be prepared to go through all the hassle.

I have no issue on the cost of buying a property despite the high price in D10 n D11. My concern is the slim chance of getting into the popular school even living <1km under 2C based from the recent result. It really disturbed me. Next if I rent a place in tampines, under 2B within 1km, it will be higher chance. However, I don’t know the regulations at all. Is there any restrictions or legal matters that I must seriously take note.
