The one I attended was on creative writing. It made the creative writing techniques

very clear to me and I knew how to guide my kids when they wrote boring essays.

I could show them how to enrich their writing.

They are having a parents workshop this children’s day. Details are in the
website but it is a workshop they are doing as part of their community service
so it is held in a church with church related activities.

I agree that the tips shared were immediately useful. Only problem is that my kid is too young for it to be applicable. Did keep my notes for future reference, but I think I already forgot more than half.

Is this workshop that is happening on children’s day available for non TAS parents? I read in today’s Straits Times that the TAS workshops are only for TAS parents?

Interesting, did TAS put up an advert? Abt the workshops, I am not so sure. I myself went for one that was a paid one when I had not joined TAS yet.

TAS did not put up an advert, they were mentioned in an article on parents going for workshops to help their children. I think the article stated that TAS does free sessions for

their own TAS students and parents. For the workshop on children’s day, it is done as
part of their volunteer service. It is for non tas and tas parents. On their website, they say it is open to all.

                  Hi sunnydays2,

It is more suitable for P3-6. It is definitely useful but your child needs to be able to pick
up the techniques from reading the book. It is best used together with the creative
writing lessons at TAS but I do know of a friend whose child could improve in his writing
by reading and picking up tips from the book. However, the child needs to be above
                  average to do so.

Sorry if I keep asking questions. I am rather ‘bodoh’ when it comes to all the tuition and enrichment centres. Am I right to say the more ang moh ones like Lorna Whiston are more on enrichment, they do not follow MOE syllabus so much?
