Need a little help here on DS P3 math

          1) Hendry has some apples. when he put them equally into boxes of 3, he will have 5 more boxes than if he puts them into boxes of 4. how many apples does he have?

          Ans is 60.

          chloecube:
          2) how do you teach your kid fraction, example:
arrange in order from greatest to smallest?
          7/8 1/12 5/6

normally i will find a common factor from the nenominator. but if the no CF , how?
          http://i51.tinypic.com/i299p4.jpg\">

1st find a common factor for the denominator. then change to compare.
i dnt think there shouldnt be any Q w/o CF?

          thks WCW,
what abt those that doesnt have CF, hmm. such as 1/3 2/11 7/19?

for comparison of fractions, we can either check the denominator or numerator ie make all numerator the same or all denominator the same.

So, if the denominator numbers are big, then use the numerator because the numerators numbers are usually smaller.

              1/3, 2/11, 7/19... make numerator = 14

              1/3 = 14/42
              2/11 = 14/77
              7/19= 14/38

              .. and compare the denominator

              cheers.

Ans is 210. Goes by 7 times table.

                      need help:

Joyce & Anne had S$3000.00 altogether.
Joyce gave S$650.00 to Anne and Anne had 2 times as much as Joyce.
How much does Joyce have at first?

                        Hi

You may want to give it a shot, taking note that :
                        - total amount both had remained the same after the transfer
                        - in the end, Anne had twice as much as Joyce ie total 3 units

                        cheers.
