Joyce gave S$650.00 to Anne and Anne had 2 times as much as Joyce.
How much does Joyce have at first?

You may want to give it a shot, taking note that :
- total amount both had remained the same after the transfer
- in the end, Anne had twice as much as Joyce ie total 3 units

given that total remains 3000 even after the transfer, and that after the transfer anne is 2 times and joyce is 1 times , ie total 3 times (or 3 units), so 1 unit is 3000/3, ie $1000, so before the transfer Joyce shd hv $1000+$650 (amt transferred)=$1650. is that correct???

Need help with the following question

Mr. and Mrs. Kumar and their children are sharing a packet of jelly-beans. If each of them takes 8 jelly-beans, there would be 4 jelly-beans left over. But if each of them takes 9 jelly-beans. there would be 3 jelly-beans short. How many children do Mr and Mrs. Kumar have? Please show your working with model presentation carefully.

i not sure how to draw the model but i think the answer is 7 children, becos in order for each child to have one more item (ie from 8 beans to become 9 beans), u have to use up the 4 left over and the 3 that were shortage. 4+3 =7. so if u try 78=56, 56+4=60. they hv 60 beans.

97=63, u hv 3 shortage.

If 3 apples per box, then 15 apples would have been extra if the same no of boxes had been used.
So 15 apples had been distributed to the boxes when 4 apples were put into each box.
Each box can accommodate 1 extra apple
so there must have been 15 boxes.
so no of apples = 15x4 =60 apples

Therefore 4 units = 48.
one unit = 12
Bala: 3units = 36 marbles at first.
