In P1, my child is subject to this TouchTyping Test tomorrow.

Don’t seem to find the ideology behind it. Their exposure of working on their school work with the computer is quite minimum for now.

What is touchtyping about? They got attend classess?

Btw, since your child is in P1, may i know is there any exam / test? Whats the frequency? PLease advise.

Does the school based on the result and group the kids?

The TouchType is just an excercise to see how well you can TYPE on the computer. Given a text paragraph, child will be assessed on how fast and how many mistakes recorded.

No exams for P1. They are only given a Test on the subjects studied upon completion of the module during the school term. This will be assessed to see if the Child understands what’s being taught.

No, the grouping is only applicable for Chinese subject during the First term by the Teacher. This is to ensure every child can learn at their comfortable pace.

Not much to worry as the workload is quite moderate. Mostly they have already be taught and prepared while in K2.

Btw, previously did u send ur kids for preparatory primary 1? Is it a must?

Next for the touch typing, did the school teach them the correct way of typing on keyboard?

They were taught in school and practice on a Typing software at school n home. It’s fun as the software has cartoon characters and kiddy songs.

All childcare or pre-schools are the same. While in K2, the child will be prepare to cope with Primary 1. So no worries. Please don’t over stress your child and make him/her develop a phobia of going Primary 1. Instead, prepare them to be independent and takecare of themselves.

One thing my child complains about is the Staircase. It’s quite a climb to reach his classroom. Even the Canteen is divided into upper and lower canteen.

In P1, they have this Journal Writing for Eng lesson. It’s a sort of similar to composition. Given a Topic, they’re suppose to write and express themselves. The Teacher had already discussed and given them some pointers give them a head start.

Now,what puzzles me is the level of understanding and comprehend. I can’t help but notice some of the spelling and grammer are not corrected even if it’s wrong. I’m not sure if the teaching method encourages them to write freely first and not be discouraged by their mistakes for grammer or spelling as they’re still in P1? I understand the child needs a lot of encouragement even to write a single page of his/her thoughts.

But what’s is the best why to encourage writing ?

Canteen is divided into upper and lower canteen? There are 2 canteens?
I do agree that climbing stairs is a chores for the kid especially with their heavy school bag.

My child will be posted to Pri 2G next yr and assigned to take Higher Chinese by the school. I heard in other school, they were given a choice of selecting the Chinese level option when they reach higher primary.
