Mayflower Primary

They were taught in school and practice on a Typing software at school n home. It’s fun as the software has cartoon characters and kiddy songs.
All childcare or pre-schools are the same. While in K2, the child will be prepare to cope with Primary 1. So no worries. Please don’t over stress your child and make him/her develop a phobia of going Primary 1. Instead, prepare them to be independent and takecare of themselves.
One thing my child complains about is the Staircase. It’s quite a climb to reach his classroom. Even the Canteen is divided into upper and lower canteen. -
In P1, they have this Journal Writing for Eng lesson. It’s a sort of similar to composition. Given a Topic, they’re suppose to write and express themselves. The Teacher had already discussed and given them some pointers give them a head start.
Now,what puzzles me is the level of understanding and comprehend. I can’t help but notice some of the spelling and grammer are not corrected even if it’s wrong. I’m not sure if the teaching method encourages them to write freely first and not be discouraged by their mistakes for grammer or spelling as they’re still in P1? I understand the child needs a lot of encouragement even to write a single page of his/her thoughts.
But what’s is the best why to encourage writing ? -

I do agree that climbing stairs is a chores for the kid especially with their heavy school bag. -

My child will be posted to Pri 2G next yr and assigned to take Higher Chinese by the school. I heard in other school, they were given a choice of selecting the Chinese level option when they reach higher primary.

Hi ladies,
I read with interests all the comments wrt Mayflower Primary.
I am planning to enrol my son to this school in 2013 becasue my Hubby was from there.
A few questions raised my eyebrows:
1> why did the kids need to learn typing at such a young age. Shouldnt the school be focusing on teaching them to WRITE instead of type? Cultivating a good handwriting skill teaches the kids to spell and learn words, and the formation of words…
2> Higher Chinese in P2 - gosh! I cannot help but opines whether the chinese is taught on a computer?
3> Seperate canteen, children safety?
4> Dancing classes?? gosh? soft skills…how about sports?
Guess we really need to see the Principal wrt her vision…a bit "sala" …
By the way, who knows what is the T score , or the PSLE scoring for this school…
I might need to re think my choice!
Thanks!

PSLE 2011 top T-score was 267 and second was 262. -
Just wondering why there aren’t many parents who post on this forum. Btw, my daughter just entered P1 this year (1 D) and is loving school. Looks to me like the teacher are doing a good job motivating the students and making lessons fun. Hope it continues …

Hi,
I’m disapointed with the limited choice for p1-p3 after school elective programs. Given only 4 options; guzheng, violin, story-telling and ballet to choose from. Others like chess, guitar, dance etc are only for P3 onwards.
Any parents with their child enrolled in any of these programs? Kindly share your experiences. thks .
