Agreed with u! They need to revamp the whole system! How to have time to build character when kids r pressured to get good results? Those Ang moh dun have to study so hard n yet they r the ones sitting on the top of those big companies…

          Hi mummies and daddies,

Did you read the forum article in ST about this parent who wrote about the irony of role reversal today ? MOE wants to instill character building when so many parents have gone back to school bcos of coaching kids in their studies. I've been scratching my head wondering what is going on in the mind of the newly minted minister. If the aim is to build character, does MOE have to drill the kids so badly ??
Aiyoh janet, Rome is not built in one day mah. The dimino effect will also need some time to get watered down. In a gigantic organisation like MOE, it may take many years before we see changes. Let's give our minister a chance.

Personally, I'm sceptical how successful this new initiative about being less academic focus will be. As your post stated, nowadays we even have parents going to the extent to attend lessons so that they can coach their kids. It doesn't get more competitive than this. Wait, maybe when someone sends the maid to attend lessons, then a new era of 'competitiveness' will ensue. :faint:

Isn't that exciting? I recalled I was thrilled to receive the orientation letter last year. But not so thrilled to receive the 'donation' letters subsequently, haha (joking only).

            Hey Mark,

Parents like us left school donkey years ago…having to read up text books now so as to coach our kids now is so tough…ESP the higher standard. What in the world is this new minister up to ? I’m just hoping MOE can ease the stress of our kids ASAP…and of course we parents as well.
Rome may not be built in a day, but to have character building ? Not quite in sync with education right ?

                Hi,

Think I log in some months ago but was asked to intro myself at the Newbies forum, which I did. After a few weeks of reading the forum, I stopped and focus on finding online resources to teach my son.

Now the renewed interest of looking for a school for my son arises again. And somehow, PHPPS still pops to my mind. Partly because its a Christian school and somewhere west.

I read in the 'Choosing and Evaluating Primary School' thread that php wrote about PHPPS, \"Non-GEP but popular school - the best is Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School, better than some GEP schools.\"

And HappyMama replied: \"Agree. Very conducive learning environment and non-snobbish teachers and students.\"

And Janet_lee88 wrote: \"Teachers are caring, they teach and do not assume the students attend enrichment classes...principal not snobbish but not very smiley.\"

We would appreciate everyone's comments about the school.. the culture, CCA focus?, how are the current teachers etc as well as your personal observation of the school as compared to the remarks stated above.

                Janet_lee88 - I have PM you too.

                Thank you so much 🙂

Now they have new naming system for P1? Guess the other system did not work too well.

A, B, C, D,. . ..are fine too. Got to disappoint DS this time. He has been asking me which Integrity class he's in.
