The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

hi kitty2,
For those centres that boast of such kids, I would think that much, or most depend on the child (and sometimes the marker) - centres may help, but certainly not all kids will benefit that way.
When i send my kid to tas, it was not with the expectation that he will get full marks or even 39.5. (he’s only in P1, so that helps in moderating my expectations). I like to think that I’m sending him there to get a grounding in grammar (which I can’t teach) and get a flavour of what may come up in tests and exams. I aim to reach the nirvana where I look only at the effort he put in, rather than the number he get. Still working on this… -
I am very very interested to send my P2 child to TAS after reading all the good reviews.
Which is a better branch? Do they teach grammar or just focus on compre + compo. Anyone heard of Creative Campus in upper Thomson? -
I think that this is depend on individual child’s capability. As long as they have improved and learned from the class, it should be quite acceptable from my end. This is because some kids might take some time to improve and we cannot expect the improvement increased tremendously.

Understand TAS have english classes that covers both paper 1 & 2 (ie grammar, vocab, punctuation, compre and compo); and pure creative writing classes.I am very very interested to send my P2 child to TAS after reading all the good reviews.

not sure what you mean by better branch becos I understand they manage centrally and the teachers travel all over the place. But I could be wrong on that count.
Sorry no clue on creative campus. -
It depends largely on parents’ expectations too. While TAS is good, do not go in
thinking it is a miracle centre, no centre can be one. Need to work hand in hand with
teachers and the child must be motivated as well. For TLL which I sent my boy to for math, when I recommend for friends, some of them say they must get a certain grade if they
put in TLL but I always say that a lot depends on how much the child can absorb and
also how hard he works.
I do not know anything about creative campus beyond some rumours that it is started by
TLL teacher who left TLL.
For TAS branches, most of the teachers teach in more than one centre so all
are good in that sense, better to go for trial and decide. -
