      Hi

My son is 4 years old and can read Peter and Jane 4b, for Usborne early reader series, can i skip level one and purchase level 2 series instead?
Hi, it depends which series you are referring. Usborne has Very First Reading, First Reading and then Young Reading Series.

Within each series, there are a few levels. You could check out sample pages of the books in each level to guage which level is comfortable for your son.

I recall at about 4 plus, my DS jumped to First Reading Level 4 after Peter and Jane 4b. (He was bored with Peter and Jane and didn't continue with the series. But he like the Usborne readers.) After a short while and after he became more confident, he was able to read fluently Young Reading Series Level 1 which if you compare with First Reading, is one notch higher. Font size is smaller, more complex vocabulary and story line.

Young Reading Series Level 2 is again more advanced than Level 1.

He hasn't moved on to Level 3 yet primarily because I find the content (mainly non fiction titles about Adolf Hitler, Anne Frank etc) beyond his comprehension though he is able to read the words.

I haven't been able to find an alternative source online other than from some sellers on SMH but they usually have limited titles. MPH is still the best bet. If you do find an alternative source, please share with me!
Sure, will share if I do find! 🙂

                Hi all,

just want to say thanks to everyone here. I learn so much from this thread. Thanks for introducing all the great books and where to buy them.

I have been reading to my 2 kids since they were babies. At times, we can read the same book up to 10 times each session. For me, I will read to them as long as they take a book and ask me to read. I must say my effort pays off when my gal starts reading at 3.5years old on her own. She struggles alittle at first, but now she is willing to read to me when i ask her to.

cant wait to get those books introduced here…thanks

                  Hi need some help.

Does anyone know where to buy the Magic Tree House series of books in Spore? I am specifically looking at the non fiction books in the series - Fact Trackers.

                  Thanks!

Dear parents , could someone enlighten me on this ? My gal is 2.5 years and enjoys me reading to her . Sometimes if she enjoys the book we can read it nightly . But after once or two times of reading she will repeat after me the parts she remember . Eventually she can " read " the whole book , but I think she is just memorizing it . Question is how do I teach her to read instead of memorizing ?

                      Hi,

Continue reading to your child by pointing each word.

Show the child 2-3 word cards for recognition of words each week.Change and revise .

                      This was what i did.

Hi, Musings. You could buy the series from this website, http://www.bookdepository.com/There are no shipping charges. An example of a book on mummies costs $7.31.

Personally, I think this is a GREAT series.
