My youngest refuses to touch chinese books, I am at a loss. Next year she will be in P1 and I do not want her to fall behind. Anyone knows how to interest an extremely reluctant reader?

:thankyou: Tamarind, you are a wealth of information. Thanks for taking time to type out your recommended books. I'll be sure to check it out on dangdang and the NLB.
If I come across good books, I will come back and share. 😄

          Hi MandyMummy,
I am looking forward to your sharing 😄 I intend to expand my home library now that I am moving to a bigger place 😉

😄 Just to share. My ds enjoyed reading 杨红樱非常校园系列 which includes

          非常男生
          非常老师
          非常妈妈
          非常爸爸
          非常小男生和小女生

He hasn't read 非常搭档 and 非常事件 yet. 😄

            Hi Tamarind,

Can I teach DS who is 25 months old this month to read 基础汉字 500 ? If not, what do you suggest that I can teach him for chinese. Im very poor in my language. Therefore, it would be the last thing that I want DS to be like me. TIA:)

              Hi Brenda10

I read somewhere where Tamarind mentioned that you started getting yr child to read chinese books sometime in primary school. Could you share how you did it? Is it somewhere in this \"thread\" ?

My DS1 in P3 this year. I have tried getting him to progress to thicker chinese books but his preference is still English books till now. He will read the simple chinese books only if I insist but they are usually quite childish so he finds them boring. He attends Berries since K2 and having been struggling to cope at Berries this year. He is taking HCL in school. Weakness is the oral and composition. Do u think I need to start from the si wu kuai do at this point or should I start by getting him to read out loud as per tam's method? He manged to finish one \"xia mao re ji\" with Berries help and I can see he actually enjoyed the story. Doesn't help that he is in a mission school, ha,ha he claimed he is the only one reading chinese book during silent reading time.

              Thank you.
Breadandmuffins, would it help if you reward him for reading Chinese books? I am going through Si Wu Kuai Du and Ji Chu Han Zi with my K2 girl, and at the same time I am getting her to read one Chinese book out loud every evening. For every Chinese book she reads, she collects 1 sticker. After 10 stickers, she gets a treat. It's working well, because she is the one reminding me its time to read Chinese book :rahrah:

                hi michyms

Thank you for yr reply. My DS not into any form of rewards as I dont normally give rewards for academic aspect. My DD on the other hand likes stickers as a reward. I find that the si wu kuai do should be done before primary school like what u are doing for yr DD. If any, boys at this age would want to play computer games as a reward!

                  Hi Breadandmuffins,

DD starts reading more CL books from P3.

I remembered she start with the comics of 小白龙 and until today she still would take out to read.

During these few years, she has read books like 小学华文补充读物 (P1 - P6 level),哥妹俩, 笑猫日记, 淘气包马小跳系列, 卫斯理 and many types of comics books that we have borrowed from Library.

As for si wu kuai we can't give you the comment as we never use it before.

However, I think DD CL compo. improve a lot after she finished the series of 笑猫日记 and this helps her to win a 优异奖 during the CL compo. contest organised by the school this year.

Since your DS has the interest of 笑猫日记 at this age then I would think his chance is even brighter if he can continuous with the other 13 books.

Also, to watch a lot of CL show and try to converse in Mandarin daily by using those good phrases and ci yu so they can register to their mind and apply in their compo. or compre.

Hope the above information is useful.

                  Cheers

                    Dear Parents,

Does anyone know how I should read this word \"地\" in this sentence?

                    我要好好地爱我的妈妈。

Should it be read as \"di\" or \"de\"? Many thanks in advance. 😄
