      Any one here can help me with this…

      Q16 from Ai Tong Paper
      Agnes made some fruit pies. She gave some of them to her neighbour and collected $14.40 after selling 3/5 of the remaining pies for $1.20 each. She then had 1/5 of the original number of fruit pies left. How many fruit pies did she give her neighbour?

        Hi

        Total = number given to neighbour + number remaining

        3/5 of number remaining = 14.40/1.20 = 12
        number remaining = 12/3 x 5 = 20
        2/5 of number remaining = 2/5 x 20 = 8 = 1/5 of total
        Total = 5 x 8 = 40
        Number given to neighbour = 40 - 20 = 20

        cheers.

          14.4/1.20= 12

          Please draw model
          3u =12
          5u=20
          2u=8

          1/5 =8
          5/5 =40

          40-20=20
          He gave away 20

                Hi,

                Need help with this question:

                The ratio of John’s card to Peter’s cards was 3:4. After John bought another 9 cards and Peter lost 18 cards, the ratio became 3:2. Find the total number of cards John and Peter had at first.

                TIQ.

                    Hi elkniwt,

                    Thanks, but I still can’t understand it…probably needs some explanation by the side.

                    Question :
                    Why do we need to multiply by 2 and 3 respectively?

                    Thanks.

                      it also can be written as

                      3u +9=3p - eqn 1
                      4u-18=2p - eqn 2

                      Try to make the p common
                      6u+18=6p
                      12u-54=6p

                      Hence 6u+18=12u-54
