      Winx5015:
Q1). On Friday, my older brother told our family that he has decided he ________ train to be an astronaut.

      (1) was going to
      (2) was about to
      (3) is going to
      (4) is about to

Q2). My father said he heard that NASA _______ interview new applicants in February.
      (1) is going to
      (2) were going to
      (3) was going to
      (4) are going to

      Pls help :scratchhead:
      Hi Winx,

Although this is a little late, here's my response with my analysis.

Qn 1 is written in the past tense, as seen by the words 'told'.Hence you can only select the options in past tense, which rules out option (3) & (4). Next, you should look at the meaning of the phrases and the context of the sentence. For Qn 1, 'was going to' and 'was about to' has a different meaning. 'was going to' sounds more probable than 'was about to' as contextually, it means that the decision has not been set in stone.

For Qn 2, it is a tougher call, as although the sentence seems to be written in past tense, the clause 'NASA _______ interview new applicants in February' is in the future. Hence, it should be in the present tense and should be option (1).

      Hope it helps!

I wonder what kind of connectors will be tested for SA2 :scratchhead: at this desperate stage, I'm getting my son to practice all-in-one assessment books to save time.

              Hi,

Without giving it a second thought, he signed up for it in the hope of transforming himself.
              (1) imperiously
              (2) imprudently
              (3) instinctively
              (4) instantaneously
[The ans in ans key is 4, my dd asked me why (3) is not ok. I told that that instantaneously means immediately, i.e. the decision is made very fast hence without thinking, hmm... but not sure is my explanation correct?? Pls help

The speaker was the main reason that spurred him to complete and pass his course with distinction.
              (1) inspired
              (2) hastened
              (3) compelled
              (4) encouraged
[The ans is (4). Again, need some help in explaining to her. Her qn is why inspired is not ok]

                HI Parents,

My neighbours just passed me this assessment…published by Ace. Title is ‘Synthesis & Transformation’. It’s for P5/6.
Just wondering if anyone knows if this publisher has other titles other than S&T & Science Explorer.
