Science Guide Books

Janet, Pixiedust and other P5 parents,
You can really cut down buying assessment books for P6, for they have hardly any time for assessment books. In fact, I rely on leftover assessment books from P5 and just concentrate on top school papers.
Before you even know it, CA1 will be round the corner and you are dishing out the CA1 papers. Once the Mar break is over, you hardly have any breather and need to start doing SA1 papers. Jun hols will be spent finishing remaining SA1 papers and working at oral and any other inadequate areas to buck up (if you identify those, you may want to target by getting specific assessment books). Then, you will start doing SA2 papers. After SA2, you will buy the other school prelim papers and start working on those. Not to forget that all these time, your school wil be giving out papers for kids to practise, additional supp classes, etc.
All the assessment books will look tempting once you go Popular or bookfest and you will be tempted to buy. But seriously, hold back and only buy when you have identified weak areas that you want to look into and time to work at it. Else you will have loads of untouched assessment books after PSLE. P6 year just fly by much faster than the other primary school years! -

Thanks so much for your valuable advice...will definitely remember this. I've got several Math assessment left over...fortunately can pass down to his younger cousin.
Just to check, will there be CA1, SA1, SA2 ? Since PSLE is in Sep, when will SA2 roughly be held ? -

Hi Janet
Agree with what Pn88n has suggested. Just zoom into the past year papers instead of doing the assessment book.
You may consider to start doing 2011 CA1/SA1 paper during this Nov/Dec holiday.
If I did not remember wrongly, for DD school:
CA1 - End of February to early March
SA1 - Early May
SA2 - immediatley after PSLE oral (22/8 - 26/8)
I also notice for P6, CA1 marks was not listed in the record book. As for SA1 and SA2, both are consider 100% by itself. -
Hi Brenda,
So I just zoom into past year papers for P5 this Nov/Dec holiday ??
His EL enrichment centre uses P6 past year comprehension passages to prepare them.
Thanks. -

Hi Janet,
This is what we do for these two years and hopefully the method is correct.
You can start doing those questions that have learnt before and at the same time study those new topics from the Science Guide book and slowly attempt to those new questions.
Basically, you don't have much time to do once the school is reopening in P6. Also the teacher will teach in the very fast mood and your DS will be in much more comfortable position since he has learnt/done all these topics before.
Just my 2 cents thought -

There should not be any SA2, there is Prelim around CA2 time and then PSLE and if I guess correctly, PSLE next year would be 27 Sept to 3 Oct 2012. :xedfingers:

P6 is a short year, and with the school having additional supp classes in afternoon, and additional school workload for the kids, the kids do not have time to do assessment books, not to mention having to find time to do past year exam papers to prepare for SA1 and prelims. By SA1, the school would have finished most of the syllabus (maybe left 1 topic only), and they will start giving kids exam paper to practise too.
I can assure you after prelim, you will see the kids (esp. the boys) all just wanting to get PSLE over and done with, as they are so tired of having to do practice paper after paper. Maybe girls are more diligent and Brenda's DD is so very motivated. I had to resort to doing part of paper with my DS only, as he was just so bored with doing paper after paper and he had no time with the school workload. Eg. For English and Chinese, he would not do any OE compre. For Maths, he would only practise Paper 2.
Good luck to all P5 DD and DS for the coming SA2! -
Hi Pen88n and Brenda10,
Thanks for the sharing and advice. :thankyou:
Looks like the 'baton' is officially passed over to the current P5 liao......so now is our turn :clubmyself: (I mean our DD & DS) to qiong ah!!! :nailbite: :scared: -
Exit the current outgoing batch of P6 students who are almost reaching end of the finishing line, in the hectic PSLE race. Soon they'll sing the song 'Al Lang Syne', and hop onto the Secondary 1 race track, start another fresh milestone new journey. :imanisland: :imanisland:
...
incoming enter the next new current batch of P5 students - raising their batons & lanterns high, high up to shine brightly leading the way.... CHEONG Ah forward, go, go, go!
:rahrah: :rahrah:
