There is a statement from ancient peoples describing the relationship between MIL n DIL - wife and concubine. This is where I heard from my mum. Maybe quite true.

Recently MIL stopped checking on me. SIL gave birth to a boy and she is always visiting them. Poor SIL, she has to cope with new baby and interference from MIL. When my third was born, I could hardly sleep, not because of the baby but because MIL gave me so much headache from her complains and her demanding that I do this and that for the baby.

You are saved from all disturbances...it's about time she diverts her attention else where...maybe your brother-in-law has a way with her  I can imagine if mine was around then...sure to get depression...can't help but add on additional headaches :stupid:

Yes, I am saved for now…my brother in law is the kind that is quite soft so I really pity my SIL. Having a child is already not easy and then add a difficult MIL to the mix and you can have depression like what you say. I may call SIL to see if she needs help. SIL is also the shy, retiring type, hard for her to stand up to MIL.

It's nice of you to offer your help...but you might incur old woman's anger. It would be good if you share some tips or be her listening ear especially if it's her first child.

Ya…I would thread carefully with my MIL around her. Sigh, want to help also must think of so many things.

Yr SIL's plight was exactly same as my gf previously (same person mentioned in my last post). After she gave birth to her first child, her MIL volunteered to help her during confinement period. She was nearly on the edge of depression. Her MIL forbade her hb to enter her room due to superstition act. She said very 到霉 for her son to sleep or enter the room during confinement period. My poor gf hv to take care of the baby herself and at the same time recuperating from her C-section. Her hb was also very soft type, dare not to defy her mum.

I can't believe such a MIL  ...never heard of husband have to avoid the wife in confinement...it will be nice if you can be her listening ear or your gf will suffer postnatal blues at this rate.

I was really astounded :yikes: by her MIL's preposterous behaviour and infuriated by her useless hb. I can't believe this was still happened in our era.

                        Hi ectanz,

Some men are so damn scared of their mothers. For goodness sake, that is his wife and child, how can your gf’s hubby leave her and newborn alone? What century are we living in?

It’s bcos these sons allow the mothers to be empress dowager and as such their wives suffer. I am not asking the sons to be rude but have common sense by loving their wives and children…not live by some stupid superstition.
