Given a pitcher which can hold 3L and one which can hold 5L, how do you get 1L of water?

Now I know the answer is simply filling the 3L and pour into the 5L, fill the 3L again and pour into 5L till full. What's remaining in the 3L pitcher is 1L.

But instead of giving the answer straight to the child, how would you guide her to arrive at the answer herself?

And thank to you we had the \"water challenge\" last night.

Ds is into challenges now-a-days, so we did it his way.

Given: one big jar that holds 5 cups of water, one small jar that can hold 3 cups ,one empty bowl .

The concept was new , so i let him fill the big jar to check it hold exactly 5 cups of water and the small jar 3 cups

Water Challenge Level 1 , time 5 mins
Get exactly 2 cups of water in the empty bowl.

He spent a minute playing with the water guestimating how much water would be 2 cups.
I reminded him that him that he has no cup to check , but i will check when he completes and if it is less or more then LEVEL FAILED .
So that forced him to :scratchhead: ... and he got an :idea: .
I saw him fill the big jar with water and then he tried to stuff the small jar into it. but unfortunately it did not fit in fully. :roll: ( the dimensions were different)
So he tried and tried to stuff it. He saw me shake my head and got the hint. And then , i couldnt resist adding, \" you are close\"...
And then he tried some aimless filling and pouring...
And then he hit it with in time.

LEVEL 1 COMPLETE :boogie: :rahrah: :boogie:

Water Challenge Level 2 , time 5 mins
Get exactly 1 cup of water in the empty bowl.

Now its easy , right?

I remembered when this question was asked, the child has not learn multiplication. Somehow, child can figure out that if I have two pitcher of 3L, I would have 6L of water and the difference between the 6L and 5L is 1L.

Actually the school had already covered multiplication of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10.

Sam and Alna played a counting game. They started counting at the same time. Sam counted forward by hundreds from the number 100. Alan counted backwards by tens from the number 200. If Sam is at the number 300, which number will be Alan at?

Ans : is it 180?
Ans sheet states 280…

answer sheet is wrong
Sam - 100, 200, 300, 400
Alan - 200, 190, 180, 170

u might also want to write to the publisher and ask them

Can anyone advise the solution for this question? The answer is not 6.

32 children are divided equally into 4 groups. There are 2 more girls than boys in each group. How many girls are there in each group?
