P1/2 exams will not be abolished. Although most schools have done away with CA/SA, there are still tests at the end of every term. I was shocked when my daughter first came back with letter of the dates of the summative tests in May. She’s in P1, by the way. The second test was in August and then this month Oct again.

Although Singapore has decided to do away with all exams in 2013. They will be doing with various forms of assessment other than through paper-and-pen assessment. This is to gear them and equip them with the 21st century skills.

It's not possible to do away with all exams...but we do need exams of some kind. Anyway, Maths exams have shifted towards non-routine kind of questions.

                joyjesoh ,

I like the direction this is taking but this is one direction that needs a practical thinking and good teachers to make it a success. Every teacher would matter. That is the draw back - the implementation.

This is a topic that matters to me , completed the survey last night 🙂

Yepp, that’s why teachers will definitely need to change their teaching methods. This is to equip them with the 21st century skills, which include life and career skills, and to develop a holistic education. Which i feel is lacking now in today’s education system.

P1 and P2 testing method is more on consistency versus preparation. Teachers will just pick any work to based the CA or SA mark on. More stressful for me as my children need exam drilling to score… but this system has its own merits - especially for those children who are disciplined.

They don’t call it exam anymore. It is known as mini tests.
