          Hi autumnbronze,

          What is foreshadowing? :?
Foreshadowing is used by the author to hint via clues, at something or an event that is going to happen.

One example is in Macbeth, where during the murder of Duncan, Macbeth thinks he hears a voice. This foreshadows his paranoia later on in the play.

          Another example is this:

Thunder roared and lightning whipped across the sky. The clouds gathered ominously and the gusty wind blew, picking up and flinging bits and pieces of rubbish from the road at the unsuspecting public. People ran
helter skelter, rushing about their business .......

From the above simple example, it does not tell you directly, but from words and phrases like \"clouds gathered ominously\", \"gusty wind blew\",
\"people ran helter skelter\", we can tell that a terrible storm is brewing and because the people are aware of it, they are rushing about trying to complete their
business so as not to get caught in the thunderstorm.

          Hope this helps, chengg πŸ˜„

On a deeper level, assuming there was a couple arguing in the midst of the storm brewing, this can foreshadow the argument turning into a full fledge quarrel, even to the extent of the relationship breaking down …

What are the usual books that will be used for Literature?

Are those books all the same for every school?
I don’t think so… So sorry, rephrase the question:

Hi icecubism, why don't you post your question in the DHS thread: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=5346 You'll be able to get advice from current parents and even students from DHS.

Hi everyone. About 1 year ago, I posted in this thread. Anyone remember me ?

I took Elective Literature as my combined humanities for 2010 O level. Got B3.

Just to share a small tip. I write my answers in the PEEL format, which is similar to the format used in writing Social Studies essays. Point, Evidence, Elaborate, Link. I find that writing the link down helps to make you focus on the question. Otherwise at times, you might elaborate additional details which aren’t related to the question.
