And I tawt that it was bad enough when eons back, I took the SBS bus from home to SCGS at the unearthly hour of 615am! 520am! Give your DD a hug for me!
Hi,pirahna:
My DD wakes up at 5am and the school bus picks her up at 5.20am. Staying at Bedok. For the return leg, she is now the 4th to reach home. Travel time about 30 - 45 mins.
Waking up at 5am is really early
What time does your girl sleep everyday to be able to wake up at 5am? Guess she also takes a nap in the afternoon once back from school?
Mine will need to wake up at 5.30am and I am already wondering why so earlyβ¦:(
But seriously, does it affect her productivity?

Pirahna, are you a SAHM? Pardon my asking, cos I was thinking that if you're a FTWM, you would hardly have enough time to go through your DD's homework before tucking her into bed at 9pm. As it is, my elder twins are in K1, but becos of the K1 h/w and the h/w from their enrichment classes, I usually coach them from 830-1030pm before they go off to bed. Thankfully, they're still in K1 and in the P.M session. I dread to think how I could possibly go thru their h/w when they're in P1 and have to go to bed by 930-10pm. SIgh!
Good thing is that she sleeps at 9pm daily. If she is tired, she can sleep in the afternoon when she is back. But she seldom sleeps in the afternoon. Luckily we started the sleep routine before she went to P1. Now even on weekends, she wake up at 7.30 to 8am.Arielyn:
Pirahna, if your DD is the 4th to disembark, then by right she should be one one of the later ones to get on the bus. Then why still have to board the bus at 520am? Poor girl...does she get enough sleep?

Shawny17, yup, I was from SCGS, full 10 years there

On days when I go to Scgs for early PV duties, I will leave around 6.50am and still am able to send dd1 on time to school. May want to consider the early morning ferrying yourself.shawny17:
HI Shawny, I stay in Katong too. WHat time does your DD board the school bus? I was told by the bus operator that my DD (she's in K1 now) would need to board the bus by 6am to make it to school by 715am. And you were saying that hte return trip takes about an hour?
Hi Arielyn, dd1 boards schoolbus at 6.05-6.10am. Yes return leg takes around 50mins to 1hr. Depends on which part of Katong you stay too. I happen to be on the later leg which means they alight the girls at the side nearer to Lasalle and the various roads around it like Bournemouth, Wilkinson and work downwards to Tg Katong where I am. However I do know that there are 2 Katong bus services as another service also plies the Marine Parade portion. (mine doesn't)
Btw, I have a K1 dd too! I know another 2-3 gals heading to SCGS in 2013. Are you an old girl too? -
Arielyn:
Arielyn, same here. 10 years in sc. Had 2 sisters who also went to same school. Lots of fond memories of the old school campus at Emerald. Met up with many old school friends after dd starting going to SCGS.Pirahna, if your DD is the 4th to disembark, then by right she should be one one of the later ones to get on the bus. When dd2 also starts going to SCGS, may consider ferrying both to/back from school. -
shawny17:
Shawny, you're a SAHM? Yup, it would definitely save your DDs a lot of time, not to mention the closer bonding forged driving them to and fro. Lucky kids! I was also from the Emerald Hill batch, never had a chance to be at the new campus. I only remembered Ms. Heng and the coutless donation drives she spearheded, so it was just give, give, give, but never had the opportunity to study at the new premises. But just as well, the old campus @ Emerald Hill held many fond memories for me
Ferrying DD to school is not an option. DS goes to K1 at Kovan. So if fetch DD to school, whole family have to go alomg. Send DD to school then DS to school, then spouse to work.pirahna:

Sometimes she will call me or my wife to check if there are anything else to do. Once she finshes, she will call to ask for permission to watch TV.

The finished work will be placed on the dinning table and we will check when we are home at about 7.30pm while we eat dinner.
Will normally read to her or go through her work or do somemore exercises if needed from 8pm to 9pm. -
pirahna> where u stay? how come ur ds k1 in kovan?
can u fetch dd to school first then on way, pass home n pick ds for k1?
we also stay far from scgs... distance n travel time is definitely a big factor to consider too

I am staying at Bedok. DS K1 is at Kovan because my in-laws stay there. They pick DS up from school at 6pm daily and DS has his dinner there. It is a 15 mins drive from my place to Kovan.pirahna> where u stay? how come ur ds k1 in kovan?

I can fetch DD to school, but whole family has to come along. So it will be from Bedok to SCGS to Kovan then to Alexandra. That's why school bus was the better option even though DD has to wake up at 5am. -

Yes, am SAHM. But you'll be surprised as my dd1 loves to take the school bus even in the mornings. There were several occasions when I was already at school (for other activties) during school-dismissal time and she refused to follow me home. She enjoys taking the school-bus home as she gets to chat and spend time with her friends who are in P3 too but not in the same class. I am sure your dd will love SCGS, just like we did!
