I don't think so. Some years ago, my friend had to marry her American boyfriend to get a green card (PR status). She recently became a citizen.peapot:
Concern2, that's quite true. If the topic is always the same, that means people are still not convinced. My Myanmar colleague who is a PR told me that it was super easy to get PR. Just work for 2 years in Singapore and you are granted PR regardless of your work scope, your position, your contribution, your whatever. I wished he would wipe off that smug look. I know he is very pleased with the government here.
you don't need two years to get PR in US, Canada, OZ ...... in fact for US, whole family gets citizenship within 24 months
According to the Internet, citizenship will only be granted if the family has lived in the US for five years. If married to a US citizen, the time period will be shortened to three years. -
Hmm…
think about it…
If SGporeans dun want certain jobs, then how?
Raise the salary levels of these jobs to make it worth the SGporeans worth their time and effort…
This also creates costs, which inadvertedly gets passed on to the consumers… and creates more inflation.
IMHO, either way out, will see huge inflation coming, if not already started.
Better brace yourselves proper.
An example is that of Australia, no foreign workers, all must be PR at the minimum… their inflation can be really high, but everything else also keeps up. The upside for them is that thye have hard commodities and resources, things that SG does not have. So, in a way, we belittle ourselves to remain competitive… in that sense, "we" will accept inflation in exchange for economic growth.
On the other end of the scale, using foreigners is an easy way out… really… cos their base cost of living in SG is much lower than SGporeans who have families planted here and no where to repatriate funds or ourselves. Has anyone calculated your base cost of expenses per month? Imagine if you were alone here, or with your spouse, in SG… your base cost of expenditures would be much lower, particularly if you repatriate funds to home in another country.
To answer this question is almost impossible… to balance it is perhaps the approach taken. Outcome seems clear to me…
What about you? -

The problem is Ah Gong must find a way to raise a tougher work force instead of the current strawberry type workers to make bosses like me more willing to employ Singaporeans...
I cannot disagree with that! :boogie: -
insider:
people who don't run biz won't know, can only be arm chair critic, or some will criticize for the sake of criticizing, not knowing what it is all aboutI have been a boss for many years.
I need teachers, cooks, cleaners, managers, and admin assts.
Given a choice, I want a 100% foreign staffing force.
It is NOTHING TO DO with foreign staff is cheaper (which is not true).
Singaporeans, the younger they are, the more they cannot perform. Most cannot take a bit of hardship perhaps due to their spoilt and squared brains.
一代不如一代. Seeing those 软脚兵 kind of workers one will just feel so fed up.
I don't know what kind of working force our Ah Gong is breeding and raising.
I literally despise Singaporeans in general when work is concerned.
Throw stones at me if you want but that's my 100% honest sentiment.
So, the problem is not the foreign talents/labour. The problem is Ah Gong must find a way to raise a tougher work force instead of the current strawberry type workers to make bosses like me more willing to employ Singaporeans...
as an example, the last few years have seen the issue of HDB property not meeting the demand, and the new minister has promptly ramped up the new flats to be constructed. this has resulted in a massive shortage of workers. do people realise that ? while throwing stones at PAP for not anticipating the demand, do they realise how much this has caused the cost to rise ?
the construction of HDB flats have caused other private project cost to skyrocket ..... the inflation as a result of this rising cost is going to hit everyone in singapore real soon
I talked to a construction firm doing something for me today - shocking - people are snatching workers and giving them 100% increase just to go over to the next boss in an instant to get started. scaffolding workers used to be paid cash $100 per day are now being paid $200 per day. any citizen want the job ? $200 x 20 days = $4000 per month, 9am to 5 pm, very senang job.......c'mon, anyone ?? -

I think such a bill will take years to be approved. There will be some states that will block it in Congress.

I'm on the fence about immigration, but at times it seems that the more immigrants we welcome, the more we need to welcome even more immigrants to serve the current immigrants.
Not sure if that makes sense.
