All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Parents who are staying not too far from Pei Hwa Presbyterian, e.g. Bukit Panjang, may want to try PV there. Understand they take in quite a no. of PV living >2km, priorities not those within 1km. Maybe want some balance and equality in students' background. Thus, there is still a balloting chance if you stay >2km.
Scary, chun bo? Won't such a policy - if it's true - discriminate against kids who live near the school?
If the PVs are all within 1km, or even 1-2km, don't think there will be any vacancies left for balloting for those staying >2km like most other schools.
We have friends/relatives' friends/DS's schoolmates who live within 1km weren't selected for PV, and yet those who were out of 2km were selected. Both this yr and last yr's registration. One was in the end selected by RGPS (staying within 1km of PH). Another going ACS (out of 2km for PH). Someone who did PV together with you last yr told me the same too. Sometimes, schools select based on what the parents can contribute, not solely based on distance . Unsure if they will change the selection criteria this year.
Same goes for RGPS, most of their PVs are out of 2km. -

I also know of someone from my year, staying within 1km (when he applied) who got into PH PV. I think our brudder php is also staying within 1km and got into PH PV the year before me; janet_lee also the same.

Could it be that due to the less dense population around PH area (helmed by surrounding private properties & Ngee Ann Poly), there're actually lesser families staying within 2km compared to those staying greater than 2km, thus giving this impression?

Talking about PV for PH. Knew someone staying out of 2km was selected as PV. However, didn't secure a place during Phase 2B balloting for out of 2km. Got into ACS in Phase 2C. -
I m so worried. Though I m accepted as a PV for Radin Mas, till today, I ve no news/notification to volunteer for any activities yet.
At this rate, I m afraid unable to fulfill the 40 hrs requirement:( -

hi,
good that those living outside 2km are given a chance at pv. guess my friend living outside 2km can forget about acs. -
There are definitely PVs who stay within 1km, or 1-2km for all, if not most schools. However, not all schools will give parents >2km a chance.
If you look at Bukit Panjang Prim, they don’t even look at what the parents >2km can contribute. Outright rejection! If priorities are given to those within 1km for PH, a close friend staying at Mayfair definitely stands a higher chance than the one staying near Newton. Another staying in Toh Yi estate should be selected instead of the one at Hillview. Compared to some other schools (exclude RGPS for sure), PH may have a higher % of PVs >2km.
Also in the news this year, they interviewed this PV who applied using her Bukit Panjang address but moved to be near PH before registration. The whole article was mainly about PVs not able to get into the schools after serving so many hours (PH was specifically mentioned. Thus, there must be quite a handful of PVs>2km. If not, why would the media want to report PH? ). Frankly speaking, I know the tasks performed by these PVs>2km can be performed by most parents. No special skills required. -

Hi Luanee,
Unless u intend to move within 1km of Nanhua,, else u can forget about it. Nanhua would need balloting for 2B if u stay further than 1km, based on past 2 years trend. And also, Nanhua has a veerrrrry small PV intake, it is almost impossible to get accepted.
Could you share the criteria for Nan Hua to choose PV applicants? I.e.
1. Distance - i.e. whether PV applicants live within 1km will have priority if number of PV vacant is more than 1km applicants?
2. Parents education background, job experience...
3. Whether Nan Hua will publicly disclose areas/type of jobs requiring PV for that admission year? So that PV applicants can prepare the application form according to Nan Hua's needs. If no such disclosure, where we can get it? During School Open Day?
4. PV applicants with better Chinese language have better chance?
It seems few discussions about Nan Hua PV program. Could you share some successful and unsuccessful experience you came across? Thanks a lot. -
If I were to buy a condo near there but TOP 2015 when my kids suppose to start on 2014 will they consider me as living within 1km?
