I'm afriad bad concentration and focus cannot be solved through popping pills. Either go for cognitive training or try to work out some strategies for your child to concentrate. Better save the money on pills and invest in cognitive training, they're not cheap.

No harm just trying the DHA supplements first if pockets are not deep enough for cognitive training.

My kid takes Ocean Health kids DHA chewables. Very yummy compared to other brands. We tried a few brands and this is the most palatable for fussy kids.

DHA supplements support the brain functions and eyesight. It is not proven in being able to change behaviour per se, but DHA is said to boost a person’s ability to handle stress and depression. (Some psychiatrists recommend their depressive patients to take DHA / Omega 3).

My ds is not so grumpy since I started him on the supplements. He doesn’t really have a bad concentration problem in my opinion as he does well in school. Just note that most kids have short attention spans so it’s quite normal. We gotta manage our own expectations of them. I can’t expect him to read a book quietly for 2 hours non-stop nor ask him to sit at home to do assessment books. I have to cut the work into bite-sized chunks.

What’s your definition of bad concentration and focus? If she’s walking around when other classmates are seated, then it’s time to get diagnosed for ADHD. If she’s only unwilling to do work that you have set, then it’s perfectly normal. You may need to work on rewards or fair deals. Depends on her age group as well.

definitely not expecting miracle with the supplements.. it's like when we took too much sweet stuff, kids tends to be more 'active'..

Thanks for recommendation.. will check it out 🙂

                      Hi Everyone,

I'm newbie to Kiasu parents but very kiasu about my children's health especially building their immunity. I've 3 kids (11, 10, 6 with No 4 on the way!!). I've been giving my kids supplements regularly - Rainbow Light Multi-vitamin gummies & Rainbow Light Omegalicious (Omega 3 - some people believe kids should only take Omega 3 but not 6 & 9). My friends give their kids Nordic Naturals & I take Nordic Naturals 369 for myself. In the past one year, I've been giving my kids Sambucol -Elderberry extract or Sambucol (which has elderberry & echinacea - this is a FANTASTIC product! The moment the kids have the slightest sniff or cough, they take twice a day for 3-5 days (cannot be taken continuously for more than 2 weeks) and their flu never develops. I've not brought my kids to see the doctor for the past one year!!

Another product that's great is Sinusin - a homeopathic nasal spray for mild rhinitis - great for stopping a full-blown cold after spraying a few days.

I order all my supplements from http://www.iherb.com which was recommended to me by my nutritionist. I even order my organic shampoos & all kinds of flu herbal stuff there. The prices are at least 30-50% cheaper GNC or Vitakids or other shops here even with shipping costs thrown in. Just order below US$300 to avoid GST charges when you ship in. Shipping cost is fairly inexpensive. I order more than 20 products each time and my shipping is still less than US$20.

                      Happy shopping!

But of course you must read widely and consult a naturopath or herbal remedy practitioner before you simply give your children herbal medication. There are lots of testimonials on every product and all the ingredients are clearly spelt out.

If you wish to buy the products there, you may use my Discount Code LUY703 which will give you US$5 off your first purchase and I will also get a small discount credit for my next purchase for introducing other customers (win-win :)) but if you choose to open your own account without using the discount code that's fine too!

Happy shopping & save $ going to the doctors!
                      Hi BeanBear
I have been giving my 7 year old DD Sambucol everyday. 2 teaspoon each day as per the usage instructions on the box.

U mentioned that the product cannot be taken continuously for more than 2 weeks. Is there any adverse effect? Where did you get this info?

                        Hi Super Mama

From what i understand, Sambucol contains the herb echinacea, there have been studies that continuous use of echinacea may reduce it's effectiveness. There are various articles on this, the following is one FYI - http://www.herbs.org/greenpapers/echinacea.html
