        some updates for my 4yo:

DD can spell ONE to TEN; she is able to write (by saying the stroke) for her own surname (simple cos it’s wang 4 stroke nia) and ren and kou); knows Jan to December (spelling of it is my target for her next mth); recognise numbers 1 to 20 (recital of number 1 to 50), she is still not so keen in maths…i get her to do maths worksheet daily (simple addition, substraction and concept(like big, small, smallest, biggest, between etc)); poem recital on weekly basis, still do Linking memory for world map ( am doing solar system for her next month)… we still read our ji chu han zhi… now second level book 1, peter and jane book 3a (take so long as each page has new word, we read one page per day)…

            hi micollh,

try to brush up on her vocabulary. Important! bec come P1 need to write minimum 5 lines compo. If no vocab as support, dun know how or what to write about. get stuck!

Nov 18 onwards got Popular bookfair, at level 6 Suntec city. Bring yr popular membership card along, for discount.

for a start, can buy her

            - Learning Vocabulary,

by Success Publications, costs sthing like $10 for 4 or 5 books. Inside have v nice colorful, nice pictures. At this young age 4 yr old, let child associate image with the word. Everyday, let her see one or 2 pictures. ask her ... can point out to mommy in this picture, where is the skirt in my wardrobe (example) ? Good! now, you can find the skirt picture. How about ... can help mommy find the word skirt ? what sound does it begin with ? ...s

so yr child learns a new word 'skirt' & store it inside her CPU brain.

another vocab you can buy is 'English Take Off to Primary 1' for 5 to 7 yrs old, with parents' guide by Oei Chay Hoon, EPH.

            - let her practise some Phonics worksheets.

            you may buy:-
English Workbook for Kindergarten 1 & 2, by GA Cheah, Rhythm publishing. If cant find this, buy other similar Phonics books will do. let her practise daily.

another one you can buy is:-
Fun Phonics Activitity Series 1 by Mah See May, Rhythm publishing

            - also expose her to some v simple, basic Picture compositions.

eg: Picture composition, by publisher Learners Publishing, author Terry Bell

over here - besides the picture, each page has got some helping words simple vocab below the picture + qns to help & guide parents along to ask the child qns (regarding the picture inside). It sets the child's observation skills to work, make her think about she sees or how she interpret from the picture. This help her later in composition writing next time.

            - if Shichida method not working, means perhaps yr child learns via some other way. eg: learn via hands on feel & touch. Every child learns differently. What works for Shichida in one child may not work on another. You may sign her up for some other Maths enrichment pgm more suitable & appropriate for child.

Maybe not ready for output yet? There's still time. The best way for right brain training to work is not to expect results, the relationship is more important, JMHO

Thanks dear ! will definitely check out ur suggested books…we parents are busy dun we… but in a way we are learning with them… so it’s really a bonding time i feel. Intend to look for maths enrichment, but am thinking let me try one more year (5 yo), if still cant make it, will let her go for enrichment when she is 6 (one year before primary 1)…

For phonic, she picked up from Leap frog, but, i still need to get her to blend the letters together… not so well yet, but in progress…

We are reading lady birds story books and many other story books (few pages, hand me down books)… vocab wise (maybe of SM, she is ok, but of course more to pick up) will check up the books u suggested. recently, children’s day, her school gave her a puzzle book, do you think it’s a good start for her to look for words ? i haven get her to do it.

In Shichida, 0-3 is input non stop.. by 4.. u should start to see output.. DD starts to see result when she is 3 plus.. other area all fantastic.. just maths.. im still inputting of course.. she is still with SM and still following the method.. im not rushing, as im a SM mummy muahaha.. but i must strengthen her \"weaker\" area..

There's a rough timeline for percentage of input and output along the way.... you know best. 😄
