Hi, this is a really quiet thread, but I'll still like to join and add my 2-cents' worth!

I think some types of jobs or industries are better suited to PT/freelance arrangements than others. Some industries are also more established in accepting PT/freelance workers than others.

I'm in the publication and education lines which have long been open to part-timers, so when DS came along, I went PT. Like workingmum, I don't find it easy being PT/freelance, plus there are no employee benefits, medical, etc., but I like the flexibility 🙂

          Hi everyone!

I’m aspiring to be a PTWP eventually. Care to share how most of you settled your kids before juggling a part time job? Did most of you do it when your kids entered primary school? It seems quite tough juggling when they are under age 7 and are not in a half day or full day programme in school. If i have no full time helper, wonder how that might work out?

            Hi moms (any dads?),

I’m a newbie to KSP and new to this club. Have two sweet DDs - DD1 (2008), DD2 (2010), recently converted to PT work in June after 10 years FT in the same job. Very fortunate as boss and colleagues are understanding, no snide remarks (feel sorry for some of you who have to put up with the nasties). Sometimes miss my pay but most times, feel happy to have extra time with my girls. My work requires quite some travelling. So on the months that I anticipate travelling, I can go back to FT and come back to PT during the lull months. I also run a small business during my free time.

            Reasons for going PT:
            1) wanted more time with DDs, hb travels alot for work
            2) no full time help (after 5 maids, i decided enuff was enuff)
            3) needed to relieve MIL as only DD1 is in Pre-nursery. DD2 is at home all day.

So here’s my addition to the list.

            Here’s list of the ptwps:
            01 / Mathsparks (mummy)/ DD1 (1992) DS1 (1997) / Yoga, climbing hills n stairs, reading, sudoku
            02 / Blobbi (mummy) / DS1 (2003) / Reading, shopping, pilates, baking, massage
            03 / Yen715 (mummy) /DS1(1997) DS2 (2006)/ reading, surf the net, watching tv
            04 / Mwchua (mummy)/ dd (2003) / Reading, brisk-walking, idling
            05 / Girlmum (mummy) /DD1 (1996)/ DD2 (2001) /reading, watching TVB series, shopping, dancing
            06/ Schweppes (mummy) / DD1 (1997), DD2 (1999) / Reading, swimming, retail therapy, creative writing
07/ all.in.one (mummy) / DD1 (2002) / Reading, teaching, tell stories, make and eat sushi, make new friends with mommies, surf net
            08/Elaiine (mummy) / DS1 (2007) DD1 (2009) / ??
09/Dinah (mummy) / DD1 / exercise, reading, travel, photo album, experimenting cook recipe.
            10/Carebear(mummy) / DS1 (1997) / DD1 (1999) / ??
11/2ppaamm(mummy) / DS1(1994)/DD1(1996)/DD2(1997)/DS2(2000)/DS3(2003)/baking, sewing, gym, collect recipes, travelling, musical instruments, sleeping (most important)
12/blue-march (mummy) / DD1 (2003) / reading, cycling, music, cooking (depends on mood) sleeping (favourite)
            13/soup(mummy)/DS1
14/Peonies (mummy) / DD1(2009) / reading, traveling, shopping, food, dogs, beauty, fashion, music, watching TVB serials and E!

              Hi hi…to all PTWM here!

I have turned PT from my existing job since Jan 2011 with my elder gal started P1. Doing half-day, so far so gd.

What "small business" do you run? Care to share some tips on starting own business? Would like to explore too…but don’t know where and how to start?

Oh hi! I thought this thread was inactive! keke...well, since no one else is around, \"Welcome to the club!\" :rahrah:

I run a small bouncy castle business with some friends in my spare time. We specialise in renting out bouncy castles for kids' birthdays. It's a new biz...so, we're still feeling around, hope it works. :xedfingers: If you're interested, you can check us out here: http://www.singaporetoyclub.com

erm...can't think of any tips but i guess it helps if it's an area you are familiar with or if you are passionate about, it helps.

How's PT been working out for you?

                  Hi Lynnmae,

Cool! It’s good that you found work partners to take the leap to start your own business. You should have gone through tonnes of considerations and hesitation before the business finally took off…all the "what if"…what if it does not work, what if the injected capital becomes a loss etc…

Not sure if PT will work forever…with work dynamics evolving…more intiatives…more reports…more admin etc…while work hours stay stagnant.

                    Hi Glorfindel,

Appreciate it if you could share what kind of PT work/position does the the publication/education industry offer. Does it allow you to knock off and don’t need to worry about the work at home?
