It is their culture not to help others or they'll be accused of doing something wrong. When dh was in china once, a man dropped his stuff but did not realise it, so dh told him but instead of thanking him, this PRC actually scolded dh and told him to be careful next time. He assumed it was dh who knocked his stuff down. So everybody will just mind their own business or they'll get scolded if they try to be helpful.

So different from Japan and New Zealand. My friend's nieces and nephews who are Japanese were taught to pick up litter they find in the streets. In NZ, I also saw people picking up litter from the streets, and they were not cleaners. -

That's why they are all turning to be so 'cold'. Read somewhere that sometimes kind souls are instead being sued by victims who wanted to get compensations. Since the victims can't get from the culprit, they accused those who helped them instead....sall:

I sure hope Singapore WILL NOT become like this. We must teach our children well and lead by examples...... -

Not just them, angmohs too actually. I was at the Novena (?) bus stations bound for Malaysia sometime back.....saw an angmoh lady smoking and left her empty cigarette pack at the bench. She walked off, go toilet etc....and I was thinking to myself \"And I thot Angmohs are civic-minded\".sall:

5 mins later, when she was about to board the leaving bus, she walked back to the bench, pick up her cigarette box and went round looking for a rubbishbin. I was :lightrod: , really slapped myself and feeling so good about her behaviour.....she did her countryman proud. Well, I can't say much about our own people

I sure hope Singapore WILL NOT become like this. We must teach our children well and lead by examples......[/quote]truth be told, most of the accident victims would lie on the road and pretend to be seriously injured, hoping to get max compensation; and sometimes passerby can't tell whether the victim's injury is real or not
