Q&A - P3 Science
-
Hi Parents,
Below is a question from Conquer Science Exercise 29 - Exploring Materials.
1. Nylon is a man-made material that is usually used for making clothes.
b. Clothes that are made of nylon are more water-resistant than clothes made of cotton. Why is it so?
Answer Key: Nylon is a plastic, which makes it water-resistant.
My query:
Nylon is a plastic? I thought it is a man-made fibre/fabric.
Is there a clearer answer than the above?
Thank you. -
Champion:
Champion, the instruction says \"Study the following pictures carefully\", so whilst your DD1's answer is acceptable, it is INFERENCE, not OBSERVATION.
Q37 (a) State two differences between the rose plant and the mushroom (2m). (Do not compare shape and size)
DD1's answer: The rose plant makes its own food but the mushroom find food.
Is my DD1's answer acceptable?
Chances are the teacher could be looking for answers like \"The rose plant has leaves whereas the mushroom does not.\"
 :yikes: I also feel the same way, that's its too robotic a kind of answer but at a P3 Subject Briefing, the HOD actually advised such for lower science block :slapshead:Champion:
It should be, point is it is unbreakable. Hope that helps!Q: The picture shows a cup. Mary's two-year-old sister uses it to drink milk. She accidentally dropped the cup. However, the cup did not break.
What material is the cup likely to be made of? (1m)
Answer Sheet:The cup is likely to be made of metal.
DD1's answer: It is likely to be plastic.
Is my DD1's answer acceptable? -
Just kaypo, for the plastic qns, my DS's plastic bottle fell on the ground and crack, maybe metal is a better ans becos there's no chance of cracking even if it fell? Just observation from daily life

smartmummy,Hi jedamum!
lukily,ur son don't have materials. :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:
don't worry! we are here to clear our doubts.I asked in PSLE-Sci thread. The parents should be know.I got answer as follows,Sun_2010 :
Ceramic is man made.
It may be made from clay (natural material) but it is man made
now sa2, my boy has materials!
to trace back, your previous q&a , the answer in the PSLE thread is
\"Ceramic is man made.
It may be made from clay (natural material) but it is man made\"
my question now is
1) are all metals natural?
2) are all metal alloys man-made?
if 2. is yes, does it mean that the kid have to know which kind of metal is an alloy?
i told my son to just state that metal is made from materials that can be obtain from the ground. don't need to state 'natural material' or man-made material'. is it good enough? the confusion comes when there is MCQ.
need help. thanks. -
Hi Jedamum!
For P3, I think, we no need to go deeper (atleast for my son’s school).I consider all metals are natural. -

Need help. What is the definition of ‘hard’ in the topic diversity ( material)? It is not the opposite of soft and hard is not equal to not fragile. Am i right to say that? Is wood considered as hard? Can give an example of an object that is hard and not fragile other than diamonds. Hard : cannot be scratched easily???

metal ?...fragile is meant for glass right
-
hardness is the ability to withstand scratches.

piggylalala,
my boy is also having confusion over hard vs strong, fragile vs durable, elastic vs flexible.
whether wood is hard, have to have something to compare with.
hard objects can be glass. glass is hard, but brittle.
