Yah. That 1 mark or 1/2 mark is so precious. That's a problem with GPA. They should look at total percentages as well as GPA.
but sometimes, suay suay get a 1 mark or 1/2 mark less which is so unpredictable, right ??Augmum:

No system is perfect.
But I suppose which fence you are sitting on. If you always get A*/A you'll say it is good otherwise it is not good.... how many percent in DHS get A*/A ?

Do you know if they would round up if you get >79.5?
Dun think so.....
As one mummy ever complained in DHS thread that her child had gotten
69.5 marks,
but got 2.8 instead of 3.6 -
Augmum:
That's so frustrating. 0.5marks = difference of 0.8 GPA points which is a lot.
Dun think so.....jtoh:

understand that for NYGH, there is a misc fees of $750 per yr,
If you score in the 260s/270s, you should qualify for EESIS which knocks off $2400 per annum from your school fees. You would still need to top up the difference in the school fees as well as misc fees though.
how abt RGS , what is est misc fees or other material fees per yr ??
( my niece din answer this Q of mine, as she says it's immaterial.....or maybe she din even bother  ) -

that 's y, the pupils often ask their teachers whether their marks are high A or low A ,
when they are given their CA1 n CA2 grades, as it will affect their final grades...... -

Yes, that is the flaw of GPA.

Then again, total percentage for all subjects may also not be reflection of a student's ability.
Just like in PSLE, all 4 subject are of equal weightage. So a student must be good in ALL the 4 subjetcs. If you are weak in any one of the subjects, you virtually kiss goodbye to your dream school.
But in O level is different ... you only need to be good in 1 language plus another 5 subjects ... So you'll find some students not doing well in PSLE but they ace in O Level ... because they may not take the subjects they were weak in in PSLE ... -

Quite a few secondary schools use the 10 day cycle, or two week timetable. Guess it gives them more flexibility in terms of hours. Time tables also change in semesters.

For the recess timing, prob becos they dun wanna to have break in between
subjects......
Talking abt changes in diff semesters, think there was 1 semester
whereby they had to reprint their timetable every few days before they settled down for the last one..... -

Somehow I don't get that impression of haphazardness?
Yes disruptive & irritating ...OrangeJuice:
hmmm..sounds pretty disruptive..but if it is not too often I guess it is still OK , thanks for sharing this here, at least this helps parents of potential njc students manage the expectations.
It gives the impression that the school & its teachers cannot manage & plan their stuff ....
I do notice that different teachers have different expectations on group project work submissions, that's all. Eg, a teacher expected a more professional poster to be handed up instead of their usual - draw on poster heavy paper and mounted on those plastic boards. The teacher expected the poster digitally printed! Well, my boy learnt something from that though. And he found the whole process quite fascinating, especially after he saw their digital workfile printed out at the digital printers. They self-mounted it with boards from ArtFriend bc they didn't have time for professional mounting as it was due the next day by then.
And then another time, they tried to be more professional with their report (just recently), but the teacher said they forgot to follow the specified report outline. *oops*. Another rush to redo.
I don't quite find that haphazard? I guess they have to learn that \"different bosses\" expect different levels of work? And they have to adjust accordingly! Eventually when they do PW for A-levels, they will meet even stranger mentors.
