We went to see Dr Goh Yau Hong at Mt E, he is very good with children... our entire family saw him... http://www.entoms.com/eng/profile_abtDoctor.html Food elimination is tough, but very effective. I have friends who find it too troublesome to do, then take alot of trial and error... till now still can't manage the allergy well...
Thanks for sharing.May i know which ENT and TCM you went to?My son's allergic to dust. How to find out which food he's allergic to?
Thanks
He will give u a list of the common high risk foods to eliminate first.. if the child doesn;t get better, need to eliminate further. then u slowly re-introduce 1 food every 2 weeks. During this time, u have to closely monitor their response to the food. My ds2 has his allergy reaction only after 2-3 days. He will also teach you how to treat long term with the medication, then how to slow wean off. I used a spreadsheet to track their diet, and cooked their every meal for a few mths. But all throw away liao...
I went to the TCM at Blk 152 Bukit Batok West Ave 6 St.11 #01-266. My son doesn't usually react well to TCM, but I reduced the dosage and split it up, so far so good. But u have to know that such allergies require long term management, cannot expect immediate results or 'cure'. Some pple will never outgrow the allergies, it all depends on the individual. But if you learn to manage, at least can have a better quality of life. Falling sick all the time is very disruptive for kids.
Not all doctors believe in food allergies, even my PD was skeptical. But this ENT doc's child also suffers fr allergies, so he understands it well. -

Not sure if I have shared this on the forum before, but my 2 boys have allergy rhinitis since infanthood.. by following the below measures, they have now outgrown most of their allergies (3 - 4yrs)... We saw an ENT doc, as well as TCM (recommended by a parent on KSP) and the following works for us..
- ENT suggested a strict diet. We did diet elimination, then re-introduced suspected food to see which are the food causing the allergies. According to him, this is the most effective method to find food allergies. Even skin prick tests are not accurate, in his experience.
- we also did the same with their body wash, shampoo, detergent, hand soap and laundry detergent...
- we tried letting them swim, ds2 was initially sensitive to the chlorine, but we shower him immediately and limit his time at the pool. They have gotten much better after this.
- We then saw the TCM. TCM noted the kids' dark eye rings, and feedback that if the child is sleeping enuff, then the cause is from poor blood circulation and absorption. She said that if we can build up these 2 factors, and keep him healthy, it will give the body a better fighting chance against allergens. She suggested pig stomach soup, korean ginseng, si shen tang or dang gui on a regular basis.
now, my boys can take almost all kinds of food. And for those that they are still sensitive to, I let them take once in a blue moon as a treat, and add a dose of antihistamine at night. So far so good. Have not relapsed for the past year. ENT doc was jokin that he is too kind to teach us, now he has less business
Thanks
Hi,
I would like to share my kids experience with you. I have 3 kids who have allergic rhinitis. I ever brought them to many PD but no improvement and worse is so many medicine to take. Therefore i decided to go TCM for help.
Herbal Basic TCM is the Clinic i bring my kids to. They are quite specialized in treating nose problems such as allergy, rhinitis, sinusitis. The physician treat my kids with xiao er tuina and herbal nose spa. After few months of treatment, my kids' conditions improve substantially and fall sick less often. Also they look more healthy compare to last time (used to be always feel tired, sleepy & headache) and are less sensitive to allergens unlike before. The biggest advantage is Chinese herbs has no side effect and my kids don't have to take so many medicine now.
I recommended this treatment to a friend of mine whose son has very serious sinusitis which causes serve headache and vomiting. She has consulted ENT and Neurologist and the specialist advised her to let her son go for operation. She follows my recommendation instead and 3 months after taking up treatment from Herbal-Basic TCM, her son's nose condition has improved greatly and since then has no symptom of headache or vomiting like before.
This treatment is really unique and effective and I strongly recommend it to those who suffer from Nose Allergies, Rhinitis or Sinusitis!
One thing I must highlight, I have never come across any TCM clinic in Singapore that offers such kind of treatment for nose, which is natural and applied externally!
You can find them on Facebook under \"Herbal-Basic TCM Clinic\". -

For many years I was a firm believer that there is no cure to Rhinitis and I just have to learn how to live with it (as told by my ENT doctor), but now I strongly feel that such saying should be overthrown!
I would like to share with the readers of this forum about my experience in treating Rhinitis, and hope to spread the good news to all patients who are suffering from such illness.
I’m now at my late 30s and a mother of two. Since my teen age years I have been diagnosed with Rhinitis by the ENT specialist at SGH. I had to apply the Nasal Spray to my nose twice a day, otherwise I would suffer from symptoms such as runny nose, continuous sneezing, blocked nose, headache, throat infection, fever, cough etc. I have been doing the same thing (apply nasal spray 2 times a day) for over 20 years, yet my nose did not get any better. Over the years, the nasal spray became less and less effective on me and sometimes I had to take Zyrtec twice a day plus Chlorpheniramine up to 4 times a day. In fact my condition got worst in recent years, as I was hardly able to breathe through my nose, due to over swelling of nasal polyps and crooked nasal septum, and my sense of smell deteriorated badly; I was in deep despair and thought that there was no more option for me except to go for nose surgery.
As I was contemplating about the surgery, I happened to find out from the TCM clinic at Havelock road which I brought my two daughters for xiao er tuina, that they have a special treatment program for Rhinitis. Since it’s supposed to be natural, safer and less costly as compared to ENT’s treatment/surgery, I decided to give it a try.
It was a 4 months intensive treatment program which consists of acupuncture cum herbal steaming for the nose, without oral medication. The full treatment was split into 3 courses with the use of various herbal formulations for nose steaming in accordance to the treatment progress. Course 1 was supposed to cleanse nasal cavity and clear inflammation, Course 2 to heal nasal mucous membrane and reduce sensitivity towards allergens, Course 3 to enhance immune system and for rehabilitation of nose’s function. The clinic provided me with a steam vaporizer device to do the nose steaming at home on a daily basis, while the acupuncture was carried out either once or twice weekly at the clinic.
I must say that the treatment was a rather long process and required quite a bit of discipline and determination, but however the result was very rewarding! Just only one week into the treatment, I no longer required using Nasal Spray or other western medicines such as Zyrtec, Chlorpheniramine etc., as most of my previous symptoms were put under control. I was surprised with the efficacy of the treatment and was thus motivated to continue the treatment diligently!
It has been almost one year now since I completed the full treatment, touch wood there isn’t any recurring of my rhinitis (only slight sneezing occasionally), neither do I experience any kind of side effects. I can breathe normal, sleep better, regained my sense of smell, and feel much healthier now! Finally after a long while in my life I’m able to live free of any medication, be it TCM or Western drugs. Even during the 7th month and at times when the haze was bad, my nose was still not giving me any problem. I therefore strongly recommend this treatment to those who are suffering from such illness and desperately looking for a good solution.
It may not be too scientific to some peoples on how TCM treatment works, but the TCM doctor who treated me was very professional and experienced, and most importantly my 20 years of chronic rhinitis is now HISTORY!
I consider myself cured by this TCM treatment and therefore I do not agree if anybody would to say “Rhinitis cannot be cured”! -

I suffered from allergic rhinitis for over 10 years, my nose was particularly sensitive to dust, haze, and sudden change of weather, and I was prone to throat infection due to post nasal drip.
I've tried many ways to combat my nose allergies, including taking western medicines, Chinese medicines, Herbal remedies and using air sanitizer to cleanse the air in my room, but nothing seemed to work for me. And i continued to experience runny nose, sneezing and blocked nose.
I finally had the opportunity to take up the Nose Spa treatment for rhinitis at Herbal-Basic Clinic last December and completed the full treatment courses in April this year. Since then, I no longer experience allergic reaction to dust, smoke, haze etc. (except occasionally sneezing at times), and the sudden change of weather didn't bother me anymore.
I'm not sure if it's right to say that i'm completely cured now, as it was only 6 months since I completed the treatment, but so far I'm pretty satisfied with the result of the treatment, and I'm able to live free of medication. Life has been very different for me ever since my nose was rejuvenated by this treatment.
Incidentally, my 3 sons age 12, 7 & 5 are all diagnosed with allergic rhinitis, even though I didn't put them on the full course treatment but only let them do the Nose Spa therapy once every 1 to 2 week, their condition are pretty much put under control too. -
lilytan ,

A friend from the Pharmaceutical industry once told me that the efficacies of some herbal medicines has improved by much today, due to technology advancement in the extraction & preparation technique, thus certain illnesses that were previously deemed as “incurable” by western medical definitions, may sometime receive unexpected results from herbal remedies. In my opinion, the Herbal Nose Spa treatment for Rhinitis is perhaps one good example.
My two daughters age 4 and 2.5 were both suffering from allergic rhinitis since young, I had to bring them to see PD every other months due to runny nose, sneeze, cough, respiratory tract infections, swelling tonsil, fever etc.; however, ever since I started the herbal nose spa therapy on them about one year ago, I’m amazed to see the big change in them, as they seldom fall sick anymore and all their allergic symptoms have pretty much reduced too.
I put my thumb up for Herbal Nose Spa, as it is really a good solution for my daughters’ allergic rhinitis! Try it before you conclude that there’s no cure… -

I started off with bringing my 2 kids to the clinic to do the herbal nose spa (together with xiao er tuina) for twice a week, then slowly reduced it to once a week. About 3 months later I bought the device and started doing it at home for my kids once every two weeks or so, but now they only need to do it as and when it's needed for \"maintenance\".
I didn't choose or mix the herbs myself, because the clinic I went to has their own proprietary herbal liquid formulations (I think they have 5 kinds of formulations for different purposes), so I just consulted the doctor and purchased the herbal liquid from the clinic, accordingly.
