If you take a look at their website, the teachers there have quite solid credentials. In that sense, they should all be pretty good. But if you really wish to know my ds's teacher, I've pm you (baring in mind some people may not appreciate their names being mentioned in an open forum like this, even for a good cause. I've to respect that).Hi Markfch
Can share which teacher is your child under?
Thanks.
Just realized that I've been quite earnest in singing their praises. I'm absolutely not related to them ok. Just a happy customer who wishes to share a good thing, the way someone here shared this lead with me previously. -
Thanks Markfch.
Have received your PM. -
Hi guys…
Me wondering - any idea if i should switch my boy (P2 nex yr) from JG to CH?? Somehow feel that JG is better for younger kids n as they grow older — will need to try out something else…
Any tots? -
vicki:
Sorry I don't know what JG stands for. But if your ds is doing fine there, why switch? Is your ds weak in only certain areas, eg. Creative writing? if so, I know that ctrs like CH (holiday programme), TAS, Mindstretcher and many others do conduct lessons focusing solely on CW.Hi guys....

Of course I do feel that CH is good (otherwise why would I send my ds there?), but with only 1.5 hrs per week, they cant possibly cover everything in depth. Thats why its impt to know whats your motivation for switching.
For us, I guess most of the things ds learns for English is still being taught by me. -
Hi markfch,
JG is Julia Gabriel. Im thkg of switching cos feel that their English programs are better for pre primary rather than primary. Wanted something more 'serious' n 'more relevant'.
Thkg of CH at Palais cos then can let Ds 2 continue at JG (cos he is only N) n kor kor can go opposite for lessosn!

Oh, JG is Julia Gabriel. I thought it’s some variant of Just Education. CH is definitely academically driven and serious. In fact, so serious is their marking, ds’s most recent OE comprehension scored only 11/20 faint.
I know what you mean. DS currently attending Sci Buddies for P1. It’s really just play-play - once in a while manhandle earthworms, do simple experiments that kind - just to entice ds’s curiosity about our environment. Now that my objective (ds quite interested about Sci already) is achieved, will be stopping that enrichment by the end of the year.
As he moves up the levels, he has to switch from fun-filled to more academically-inclined classes. Yup, I totally have the same concept as you. -
Hi markfch
I have been looking around for p1 English class for my gal n did consider CH b4. However, didn’t sign up with them because of the timing.
Now that u have mentioned about the high standard there in terms of marking. Although I do see the +VE side of it but I am wondering too if this will demoralize the child. What do you think?:) -
chocpockie:
Demoralising for the child or the parent? Hehe. When I asked ds whether he wishes to continue with CH recently (before I make payment for next yr), his reply was an emphatic 'Yes!' So it (the low marks) doesn't seem to bother him at all.

The low marks is because CH expects inferred answers for their P1 OE Compre exercises. Eg, even when ds lifts the ans from the passage with the correct content, he'll still get zero because he didn't go beyond the next step to infer. I'm trying to reinforce this part with him, so hopefully he'll improve. Yes, progress is all I'm looking for, not perfection.
I'm not unduely worried, partly because ds is doing quite ok in his school and student care tests, partly because he seems to enjoy himself there. So I guess the answer to your question - whether this will be demoralising - is that it'll depend on each individual child. -
Tks for your input markfch.
Actually I like to put my gal in a English centre like what you have described for CH. I agree sometimes when students' answers are not what the teachers are looking for. So they got penalized.
Nowadays the English standard is not like our times. So rather let he professionals teach.
Ok, will def kIv CH until the class timing is convenient for me

Hi,
Anyone has the schedule for P2 class next year? Thanks!
