HiHi,
Please assist :
Yili, Lynn and Devi went shopping. Yili spent 0.25 of the total amount Lynn and Devi spent, while Devi spent 4/11 of the total amount Yili and Lynn spent. Lynn spent $37.50 more than Yili. If Lynn had $90 before she went shopping, what fraction of her money did she spend ? Express your answer in its simplest form.
thank you !!
same approach as the PQRS question...
Devi: Yili + Lynn = 4 : 11, Devi : Yili + Lynn + Devi = 4 : 15
Yili: Lynn + Devi = 1:4, Yili: Yili + Lynn + Devi = 1: 5 = 3 : 15
Devi:Yili:Lynn : Yili+Lynn+Devi
= 4u : 3u : (15u-4u-3u) : 15u
= 4u : 3u : 8u : 15u
So 8u - 3u = $37.50... I think you can complete the rest..
cheers. -

Needs help;
1/5 of Steven’s age is 1/7 of Derek’s age. In 6 years’ time, their total age will be 72 years.
A) what is their total age now?
B) how old will Derek be in 6 years’ time?
Thanks. -

So, from the question, we get this - Derek = 7 units, Steven = 5 units.

1/5 of Steven's age is 1/7 of Derek's age. In 6 years' time, their total age will be 72 years.
A) what is their total age now?
B) how old will Derek be in 6 years' time?
Thanks.
Thus, 12 units + 12 (have to add 6 to BOTH of them, thus 12) = 72
So 12 units = 60 → answer to part A
1 unit = 5
Thus, Derek's age now → 5*7 = 35
So in 6 years time, he would be → 35 + 6 = 41 -
Pls assist me this question:
Jane has $60 more than Candice. If Candice gives Jane $20, the amount of money Jane has will be thrice that of Candice’s. How much does each of them have ?

Draw a model to solve this question.
You will realise that two units are actually $20+$20+$60 which is $100.
Alternatively at last Candice has one unit. If she didn't give she would have 1u + $20. And as for Jane, if she didn't receive, she would have 3u - $20.
And that you know that Jane has $60 more than Candice. So that means that
1u + $20 = 3u - $20 - $60
$20 + $20 + $60 = 2u
2u = $100
1u = $50
Candice: $50 + $20 = $70
Jane: $70 + $60 = $130 -

HiDear all..
Need some help with the following question.
When a tin of paint is 1/2 full, it weighs 5kg.
When it is 1/3 full, it weighs 4kg. What is the weight of tin when it is full?
Thank you!!
Total 6 units of paint when full ( common multiple of 2 & 3)
[Empty Tin][3 units of paint] = 5kg
[Empty Tin][2 units of paint] = 4 kg
1 unit of paint = 5 - 4 = 1kg
So, total mass of the tin when full = 5 kg + 3 units of paint = 5 kg + 3 kg = 8 kg
cheers. -
Thanks so much.
Would it be possible to use model to solve? The teacher has asked the students to solve using the model approach.
Thanks once again. -

yes.. as per the solution..
empty tin = big block
paint = 6 smaller blocks
First model - big block + 3 smaller blocks with 3 dotted blocks = 5 kg
2nd model - big block + 2 smaller blocks with 4 dotted blocks = 4 kg
cheers.
