Oh I see.. I wasn't aware of that, probably cos my son is under the \"old\" system. I think 8am to 3pm is just nice though, what a pity they are not continuing this. A lot of ds2's classmates are on this same extended half day scheme.

This extended programme, I was told by PSH, will eventually be phased out, i.e. those already in the existing 7.30am-3pm will continue to move up to higher levels, but the newly enrolled kids will no longer have the choice of this particular timing. It'll either be 7.00 am to 7.00 pm/5.30pm or 7.00 am to 12.00pm thereabts. It's because it's easier for the centre to coordinate the logistics.


Note that starting time is 7.00am not 7.30am moving forward, because MCYS has informed PSH that it is operating under a cc license (what do u call that?) so it has to comply with the stipulated operating hours of a childcare centre whose primary mission/biz function is really to cater to working mothers who need to be on time at their workplace, usually at 8.30am.

Hi, I have just called up Katong, and they told me they only have slot for 1-7pm (Playgroup) at that branch for 2012. That is the extra curriculum.
I'm a little confused now. What's the diff between the core and extra curriculum? Tried to find info thru their website but it was quite vague, as in only given the outline, and not sure what are the details.
The lady whom i spoke too, couldn;t tell me details, and asked me to visit the school on their visiting day which is on 16th Nov.

Currently my ds is in Globalkids along Mtbatten Rd which is nearby.
I am just wondering if there is much difference if I followed their program, and switch him to Pat's, coz I was told that Pat's system is good that they prepare kid to enter P1 smoothly.

Any comments?

K1 nap time is after this enrichment. K2 usually don't nap anymore.

For full day K1 and K2, after a short rest time (some kids don't nap at all), they have another enrichment slot from 5pm -6pm. This is where swimming and so on comes in.

I think the exact timing may vary from centre to centre. K2 definitely no nap time, in fact I am under the impression that there is no nap time for K1 as well. The extended programs for K1 onwards for DD started from 1pm to 3pm. Or maybe the nap time for them is indeed after their snack time at 3pm...

i would like to hear from parents whose kids graduated from PSH and their readiness into P1, e.g. is the kid graduated from PSH (without any additional enrichment) able to cope with P1 school work? I’m keen to hear those recent (last few years) cases rather than those graduated more than 3 years ago.

If additional enrichment class is required, what are those recommended to ensure that your kid is ready to take on P1 readily and confidently.

Does anyone have problem with the school not responding to emails?


Before paying the registration fee, the service was very prompt and earnest. PSH would even email newsletter on how to better manage kids. After paying the registration fee (for 2012), there has been no further correspondences from them, not even when there is a change in school fees.

Every child is different and has different rate of absorption (then again, who you have as a teacher may also make a difference). I feel the kids would be relatively well prepared. For Math, they are taught addition/subtraction (up to 2 digits if not mistaken), number bonds, reading time, counting money, etc. For English, not really sure what they do, but when we signed up DD for Lorna Whiston for a short while in K2, she complained it was too simple... Still, at the end, every child is different, for I intend to enrol my younger son for some English enrichment next year as he is not reading as well as his sister (way behind... in fact).

Chinese definitely should go for enrichment simply because most of the children are not getting enough exposure from home.

its called Pats schoolhouse Lakeside. my ds is there. the building is old cos it used to be another childcare center and before that, it was POSB bank.

the inside is totally new though. they just renovated, changed the flooring, painted, etc last month. just moved during Oct 1-3.

vacancy not sure, you can call? i know they absorbed quite a no. of students from the former childcare... but then they increased the no of classes too.

my son loves the teachers teaching him. that's the feedback i can give.
