Nice to know that you feel the same way. Really like Christmas lighting blinking. Also like it when they fly around. But I doubt I will go back there. Once is enough for me.
I felt the same way even tho it was a decade ago!JR:
As for fireflies, I have not been to the one at Desaru. I did visit the Kuala Selangor fireflies though, it was quite magical. But it is quite a distance away from Singapore...
Waiting for DS2 to b slightly older b4 bringing the kids back to Kuala Selangor.

Hi all, Thanks for all your info and recommendations. Now am a bit worried on the weather as the monsoon rains seems heavier now than in the past. Was told it would affect the coasts of msia too. Wonder anyone have any info or exp travelling there during the year end in the past? Based on all your info, it seems travelling via 2nd link is more direct and advisable. Am staying near central of Singapore but guess would choose the easier way/ route being the 1st trip up.
The weather is really quite unpredictable. So can't advice you there. Just depends on your luck actually... But if you do go for the firefly activity, do check that it is not near full moon. New moon is the best time since it will be darkest and the fireflies will be more visible. I did a check on the calendar. Nov 18 is 23rd day of lunar month, so should be three quarter moon then. Guess it is still ok.
As a guideline, better to go East coast of Malaysia (Tioman, Desaru, Kuantan, Redang, etc) in June where it should be dry season. For December, go to West Coast places like Malacca, Port Dickson, Pangkor and Langkawi.
As suggested, do take it easy for your first trip and not be too adventurous. Chill out at the resort for the first night and maybe venture to the fruit farm and lunch somewhere in the next day. -

I don’t have GPS - but I’d imagines it’ll be a lot easier to get around Johor Bahru with it. I rely on a sense of adventure … and a sense of humor if I get lost.
It is, indeed, scary to drive on the dirt road leading to the firefly landing stage at night. There’s no paved road, no lights to light the road, and just grass or lalang at the side of the dirt track. And there isn’t even any houses on the way - just at both ends. We paid a guy Rg.25 per pax (and there were 15 of us) to drive his car in front of ours. The guys running the fireflies boat charge around Rg. 22 per pax. (I do not remember the exact amount, just the ballpark amount). The hotel provides transport to and fro but charged Rg. 40.
The children were mesmerised by the fireflies and loved the experience. The fruit farm was preety interesting too. They have a little zoo at the back of the farm, and the kids could feed the goats and rabbits.
The hotel also provides entertainment in house. You can rent games like monopoly, caroom, billiards, there’s a children’s playroom, sand art, a small archade , and of course, there’s the sand and sea, and sea sports. -

I think you mean Jade Garden Seafood Corner. That is the famous one. Actually along that street there are others. Ate there for lunch after our trip to Lotus Desaru. I am not really into seafood but since it I am around the area, must try. Got a shock when I got the bill for our lunch of 1 lobster and some vegi dishes. Actually calculate back should be ok as compared to the price in Singapore. So better to ask the price before you order just to check...
As for the direction to the restaurant, it is really quite direct, only one road all the way. I am a visual person, so I would recommend google maps -- http://maps.google.com/
I find the \"Get Directions\" function on the left side very useful. Simply type the location you want (if possible, the actual address), sometimes, like Lotus Desaru, they will pop up the address for you automatically. For Jade Garden, that one you have to look up the address (in this case its Jalan Hee Seng, Sungai Rengit). So point A to point B and click \"Get Directions\" it will show the actual shortest route and calculate the time and distance. It will give you step by step directions on how to get there with the actual road to take in blue on the map. Sometimes, like this case, it even suggest an alternative route.
For some place (too bad not available in Malaysia yet), you can drag the man icon on the top left corner to the place you want to visit and you are \"transported there\". Quite fun actually. Tried it for the road outside my place and it works (although google did the filming about 2 years ago..). -

Parking may be a problem. May have to park further down the narrow lane. -
Anyone have booked taxi to travel around in Desaru before? Any recommendations. Am thinking to take the ferry up as the roads seems narrow and difficult to travel on at night and in additional to it being our 1st attempt to drive up to M’sia and no company, I give up the idea of druing up. Thus, thinking to get taxi to bring us around instead. Am travelling in mid Nov thus, would need recommendations on it soon. Many thanks.

I have not booked a taxi to Desaru but I suspect it will be expensive and not common. Going as part of a tour group may be a cheaper option.
