Does anyone know if HCI is strict about its promotion criteria of MSG less than 4 for sec 3 students? That is, any exceptions to promote to Sec 4 if slightly exceed MSG 4?
Am waiting with bated breath for exam results to be released...
It is Academic MSG that is his archilles heel. I think it is about 4.2 or so.
Have you heard of students who appeal? Or will they be sent to Q class and go on \"O\"level track??

My ds1 is in Sec 3 this year, some of his friends are taking CL O Level but he is not taking, many are not taking. Everyone needs to take HCL O Level in Sec 4, regardless how well or badly they do for CL O Level in Sec 3. Although MOE only requires a pass of HCL in O Level to be exempted from CL in Year 5, HCI sets higher standard. I don't remember exactly what is the required grade (could be minimum B3 or A2). I believe no one is allowed to use CL O Level to gain exemption from CL in Year 5, not just for HCI.
No, it is not compulsory to take CL 'O' level at sec 3. I heard only selected pupils are recommended to take at sec 3. All HCL pupils are required to take HCL 'O' level at sec 4 and this is practiced across the board in all sec school in Singapore including IP schools. To gain exempted from Chinese at JC years, pupils who take HCL are required just to past it at 'O' level which they take in sec 4 (not sec 3), but individual IP schools may tighten this criteria. Have not heard if HCI allows students to use CL 'O' level to gain exemption for Chinese in yr 5 and 6.ApronMama:

Remember the sch told us that it is compulsory to take O level Chinese in Sec 3 so that by Sec 4 they can take and clear their higher Chinese . Then by JC they will have one less subject to worry and will more time to focus on other subjects.
I think there is some confusion here. Need to distinguish between normal Chinese at O Level and Higher Chinese at O Level. For exemption in Year 5, one must take the HCL O Level and HCI requires a higher grade than passing to get exemption. In HCI, normal CL O Level is optional (those who choose to take it do it in Sec 3) -

Yes, but we have done our own computation based on the previous 3 terms results (30% weightage) and final year results (informed verbally by teachers and carrying 70% weightage)...agah agah..My husband also quite impressed with my computation considering I was an arts student... :xedfingers:

My DS will be joining the HCI family next year and can someone help me with the following.
1) Can someone share the booklist for 2011 Y1 booklist (iSpark)?
2) May I know is there any pre-requiste to join the Weiqi/Math Club, are they core or merit CCA?
3) Generally how many sets of uniform and PE attite are needed for Y1?
4) Which CCA is the most difficult to get in?
5) Is swimming part of the PE lessons?

Booklist will be given out during the orientation session ...a day will also be allocated for iSpark students to make the purchase. I do not think anyone will have the book list, but you can definitely try the bookshop if you really want to purchase them so way in advance.My DS will be joining the HCI family next year and can someone help me with the following.

For CCA, unless the student enter HCI under CCA, otherwise they are supposed to go thru a CCA orientation before putting in their choices. Thus there is no compulsory CCA from what I understand.
Swimming is part of PE lesson and will be schedule according to class and consortium.
