maybe a sudden stop wont throw the passengers off, but a violent stop will throw them off???
but i hv nvr heard of violent stop -

I think the train stopped and jerked and it must be hard, so it's violent.

The phrase \"violent stop\" is correct. It's sometimes used in newspaper reports about accidents. -
